Generally a lovely place to walk, although the stretch leading up to Brighton is a bit the worse for wear and could do with a bit of TLC.

I use this route regularly to get from Rottingdean & the Marina and it is a fabulous walk, different every day. On sunny days it is often very warm and sheltered, even in winter. You can see the oyster-catchers on the rocks at low tide and it is fun dodging the sea spray on windy days (tho avoid when very rough as it is dangerous)There are two lovely cafes on route if you have time to stop. It is a great route for walkers, runners, kids, dog walkers & leisure cyclists. The majority of cyclists are considerate of others and observe the clearly marked 10 miles an hour speed limit, & pedestrian priority signs. - & obviously they need to dismount at the cafe areas for safety reasons. Unfortunately I have seen a few near misses between cyclists & pedestrians, and there have been collisions- & this has put some people off using this lovely walk, which is such a shame. So speed cyclists please note: if you want to channel your inner Chris Hoy or Laura Kenny, cycle along the top path, which is perfect!

The Undercliff Walk is a walk alongside the small beaches between Brighton Marina and Saltdean. It is wide and concrete and perfect for cyclists and dog walkers, although cyclists should know that on hot days it becomes quite busy so it won’t be suitable for high speed cycling. Along the way there are several public toilets, ice cream shops and cafes. However, as it is under a cliff, you can only leave the path at Brighton Marina, Ovingdean Gap, Rottingdean and Saltdean.

Went on a day when it was raining but still it was a fab walk, with sea being unsettled, the waves were crashing against the wall, it was both scary and fun at the same time

What a lovely seaside walk! We decided walk from Rottingdean to Brighton Marina as parking is so much easier. We parked in Tesco pay and display just on the crossroads as you come to the seafront. It was £3 for a maximum of 3 hours.
It’s a flat, wide promenade with the cliff face on one side and the beach and see on the other. Lots of cyclists so watch out but to be fair they do ring their bells!
It’s about 3.5k to the marina and took us about a hour. It’s was very hot so we could have walked quicker another time. We grabbed a quick coffee and then turned round and walked back. Stopping at the cafe for a bottle of water and loo stop. We then stopped and sat on the beach for a bit.
It was a super way to spend the morning and we shall definitely be going again soon!
There is a lovely greengrocer open too so we bought some summer berries to eat on the way home.
