I have just returned from a mini weekend at The Balmoral coutesy of Leisuretime Travel, (Cardiff). The weather was bitterly cold and I'm sorry to say the Balmoral's central heating failed to heat my first floor single room on the Friday evening even though the radiator was on full blast! Thankfully there was enough bedding for me to have a decent night's sleep. Other than that I had an enjoyable time at the hotel. My single room, on ground level, was compact with a decent sized bathroom area, an old style tv with 4 channels available and the usual tea/coffee making facilities. Meals were served in the basement dining room and the meals were tasty and well cooked with the waiting staff being efficient and friendly. Bar prices were rather high, £3-50 a pint, but that seems to be the norm these days in these types of hotels. The cabaret on the Saturday evening, provided by a male/female duo singing 60's/70's pops, Carpenters style was very enjoyable. I was impressed by the owner, Jenny's hands-on and enthusiastic attitude whilst the French bar lady was charming. All in all, and taking in the abnormal weather conditions, I had an enjoyable stay and would certainly stay there again but, perhaps not in the depth of winter for obvious reasons!

Our party were well catered for at this nice family run hotel. Rooms at the rear do have a genuine sea view over looking the bay and the pier. Pleasant lounge area, large TV room with plasma TV, small lift to all floors. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice breakfast with a good choice of fruit, cereals, full English, toast, marmalade etc. Efficient service. Nice comfy beds with clean linen and plenty of fluffy white towels. Water pressure not too good for the shower but could be adjusted a little until the temperature was ok. We had two evening meals provided at the hotel during our stay which were extremely good. Well cooked, nice and hot and we were never kept waiting between courses. The furniture in the room we had was a lilttle worn and dated but it served its purpose. Overall we were very pleased and enjoyed our stay at The Balmoral...a good value for money place to stay, close to the town and the beach and the view from our room was great.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel on the 2nd floor have the best sea view

We stayed at The Balmoral Hotel for one night at the end of October. It's in an excellent location (about 5/10 minutes walk from shops, amenities etc) and has a large car park at the rear for customer use. Our room was very pleasant, clean & spacious (a little old fashioned perhaps but no complaints) and the lady who greeted us at reception was friendly & informative.

I have a feeling that it's quite popular with large parties because there were a fair few groups the following day at breakfast which I'm sure isn't a problem most times but unfortunately we were in a room beside one half of a particular group staying who were extremely rude. They were in and out of each others rooms until 4am, slamming doors and having loud drunken conversations outside our room. We did try calling reception but understandably this was not manned at 2am. I'm not sure how the hotel could rectify this in the future (other than keeping an ear out or having someone work during the night on weekends?) but it was so frustrating having to put up with that. We eventually fell asleep around 4am only to get up at 8.00 for breakfast, not something one wants to do when on holiday!

We told the receptionist about this upon checking out and she did seem genuinely concerned, apologised and said she would mention something to them when they left.

Breakfast was pretty average (poached eggs tasted of vinegar?) but we didn't expect much for £50 (for two of us, inc breakfast) and service was friendly and efficient.

All in all, a good little cheap stay in a great location but we did leave feeling a little tired and hungry which pulled the experience down a tad.

Room Tip: Be specific when booking to ensure they're aware of what you require during your stay. They can't help if you don't.

Thank you for your review. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Balmoral for your week-end. I'm sorry that you did have some noisey neighbours during your stay, unforunately when we put out "specials" at this time of year, it tends to be young people who pick up on the offers who want a "party week end" away. Please come and stay with us again soon and ask for a quiet, secluded room. Best Wishes, Jenny xx
