“Lovely staff but a little shy of boutique...”
Reviewed 12 July 2012

I stayed in this hotel for one night in early July 2012 for work purposes and was overall, really satisfied with my stay. The reception staff I came into contact with were absolutely lovely. I stayed in room 14 which for a single traveller was lovely and big (with two beds to choose from!) and immaculately clean. It did face onto the side of the hotel next door and whilst the bathroom is private, a blind would have been great just to screen out the sight of the pigeons who clearly reside between the two buildings. I had a great night's sleep, my bed was lovely and comfortable. The bathroom again was super, super clean and had obviously been renovated. I would however say that the shower isn't a shower. Like many reviewers it's just a shower head connected to the main taps - I'm sorry but no hotel can call itself boutique if it doesn't have proper power showers. That was a real let down and made a quick, early morning pre-conference shower a bit tricky. Secondly, the towels were woefully inadequate - please, please, please provide proper bath towels, the kind you can really wrap around yourself after a bath or shower. The Cottonwood's were tiny and bordering on tea towel size - again boutique, it's all in the detail and decent size towels shouldn't have to be a luxury item. To end on a positive note - showers and towels aside - this was a comfortable, friendly, clean hotel and a nice, bright (note the downstairs decor!!!!) antidote to the rent-a-kit budget hotels which are of a comparable price in Bournemouth.

I checked into this hotel and was very quickly made to feel at home and they offered me a sea view as the hotel was not full(Thanks to the weather). My room was on the second floor and the 'tiny' lift was a ittle difficult to get into as it was your typical 'old fashioned' and very small lift. I stayed in room 31 and it was comfortable however a little horrified that the window ledge was below knee height and the window opened fully People with little one's be mindful of this 'death trap'! The room was large clean however the bathroom was small and had a bath with a shower hose but no shower hose holder so you would have to hold with your hands. You also have a main road outside so can be a little noisy however overall clean and tidy.

A colleague and myself recently trained a group at the Cottonwood . Manager Paul Turner was extremely efficient in ensuring that the room was set up as requested and that we had everything we needed. Coffee and tea arrived at the specified time along with delicious home-made cakes (the brownies were gorgeous!!).
We had lunch in the dining room downstairs and again the food was excellent. On the last two days of the training we had sunshine. We were so stunned by this long forgotten spectacle that we asked if it would be possible to eat outside.Paul and his team rushed around setting up benches so that we could enjoy our lunch in the sun, which was lovely as we could see the sea just a few yards away.
The decor of the Cottonwood takes a bit of getting used to, particularly if you happen to be a migraine sufferer, but by the end of the training my colleague and I had come to love it!
Great deals on 2-4-1 cocktails in the evening too!
I would definitely recommend this Hotel as a great training venue and a great place to enjoy a meal. Most staff were efficient and attentive. I am unable to comment on the bedrooms as the Cottonwood was full so we stayed at the Oceanview next door.

I always find the staff very helpful when I visit the hotel. The venue is inspiring with beautiful furnishings and the location is wonderful with sea views and gardens to the front of hotel. Plenty of parking is a bonus too. The Cottonwood Hotel is the only Dorset venue to host the Nicky Rox shoe design workshops.

Whilst attending a conference at Bournemouth we booked a party of 18 into this hotel.
Contrary to other reviews i found the staff and their attentiveness to be second to none. We received a warm welcome at breakfast and tucked into what can only be described as an excellent breakfast. All were catered for from cereal lovers to the full english lovers. In fact we could eat both and there were no restrictions. They are happy to cater for individual needs such as how people want their eggs etc. We ate there every night and the quality of food and service was excellent. We even asked for a BBQ to be put on one evening where we invited guests from other branches. The managers were only too glad to sort this for us. The chef that night ensured everyone was well fed with a huge variety of BBQ dishes.
The rooms are well equipped. However, a gripe from many of our group was that the water flow was weak and it took ages to fill a bath. A number also mentioned the showers were not adequate for the taller person and a number had to bend double to get under the shower head. We did mention this to management who stated that they were aware of those problems and would be changing their boilers etc soon.
The hotel has excellent views out towards the sea. We have previously stayed at the Marriott hotel on the other side of the cliff. However, i am happy to state that we received the same excellent service and rooms (apart from the shower problem) at half the price so good value. We will definitely be booking again if the management can sort the shower/water flow problem.
