“Bad Service not worth the money!!!”
Reviewed 29 May 2012 for a stay in May 2012

We booked this holiday home as it looked very appealing in the first instance with the indoor swimming pool and the number of guest it can accommodate. However, by the last day of our stay we were really disappointed with the experience and customer service that we didn’t feel like this place does any justice for spending over £1000 for our stay.

- On the first day whilst we were unpacking the food we just bought from Tesco we found a mouse running around in the kitchen. We rang management who showed no interest with regards to the state of hygiene in the kitchen. We were promised a mouse trap from the owner but this never really happened so we had to ensure that all the food (snack, crisps, fruit were put away high up in the cupboards)

- The first day (Monday) none of the lighting in the decking area was working. Lucy knew about this before our stay and still did not do anything to resolve this nor tell us about it. So we ended up searching for a light switch which we were never going to find as there was a fault with the entire lighting system. It was very difficult to contact the owners as we found that you would have to constantly try ringing in some hope she may pick up. When all this failed I had no choice but to leave a text message to say “please ring urgently” only to find that she called back the next day. Resulting in us not having any lighting to enjoy the BBQ or the Jacuzzi.

- The lighting was promised to be fixed on Tuesday but was not actually fixed until Wednesday evening. Meaning again we had no light for the BBQ or the Jacuzzi for half our stay. I find this level of service to be extremely poor as the money we paid contributes towards 100% of the facilities yet we could not make the most of all the facilities. There was no apology from the owner but only “ we will try our best to get it done” and that “the other guests were ok with it”. The owner actually expected us to be ok with the lighting not working simply because the other guests were ok with it.

- The room temperature was really cold. Again the timing of the heating is controlled by management. We traveled with children who were all under 5 years old and 2 children were under 1 years old. I find it really unfair that we had to put up with this kind of treatment.

- The thing we were all looking to enjoy the most was the indoor swimming pool. However, the temperature of the water was really cold. Defeats the purpose of an indoor heated pool!!! On the Wednesday when management came to do the lighting for the decking area we asked if they could increase the temperature for the pool. We were told that’s the highest the temperature goes. So don’t expect a heated indoor pool because you will not get it.

- On the Wednesday when the contractor came to fix the lighting we were astonished to find the owner walking around in the house freely. We had our laptops, card, money and other personal belonging in bedrooms and throughout the house. There was no respect from management to give us our privacy and thought it would be ok to roam around the house. After challenging management with regards to what he is doing he had the cheek to say can you close the windows in one of the bedroom!!!

- One of the bedrooms in the cottage is so small and has a bed slightly bigger than a single bed but definitely smaller than a double. We were lucky that a couple that was meant to come could not come. Otherwise, it would be embarrassing for us to put a couple up in that bedroom.

- All the beds in the house are really uncomfortable to sleep in. The mattress does not feel like it has ever been changed.

- The boiler makes a really loud noise at night like a plane engine. This meant we would either have difficulty sleeping or turn the boiler off which meant we’d all get cold water in the morning. DISSAPOINTING!!!

- We had reached Thursday, (our last night) and thought this would be the end of the bad service only to find that our entire supper was ruined because the fuse in the kitchen had tripped over. Our roast was only half done and we lost all the electrics in the kitchen. Luckily we got through to the owner. It took them over an hour to come and sort the fuse out. As a result we had our supper at 11:00pm! Again no apologies from the owner. Due to the fact that we had our supper ruined and it was late, our kids were restless and in an attempt to get them fed and in bed so that we could be up early to leave by 10:00 we had left the dishes unwashed. (in total a 30 minute job at the most). The next day we had to be gone by 10:00 (as you will be told that a penalty will be charged if you are even a minute late leaving. We cleaned the house every day and on the last day we made sure that all the rubbish was in the bin to make sure the cleaner next day have an easier job just vacuuming. The owner calls us at 10:30am after we had left with the final insult of the stay to say that we will be charged £40 because the dishes were not washed up!!! Apparently it took 4 workers 1 hour to clean the dishes! More like it took them 20 minutes and thought they would enjoy a drink at our expense.

- The security deposit is meant to reach your account within 14 days. I would have expected it a lot sooner as we live in a world where transferring money can be done very quickly. On the 13th day I did not receive the money so I had to call the company. It took me all morning and afternoon trying to get through. Finally I get through at 7pm in the evening and I was told that the money was authorised to be released a week ago and that it will be looked into. I actually received the money on the 17th day. (3 days later and that too because I rang to chase it up)!

- Charging us £40.00 after the experience we had is a reason why we would never go to this holiday home ever again and we would only recommend this to people who don’t mind bad service, cold swimming pools, expects to have money deducted from their deposit unfairly, don’t mind having issues dealt with unprofessionally and can put up with failures in the house which will be seen to as and when management feels necessary which in our case is after half the stay!!!!!

“Be Careful”

The house at first is stunning but did have a few issues. The main shower would literally scald you if a tap was turned on anywhere else in the house. The ensuite shower leaked really badly and soaked the whole floor. Downstairs bed so low to the floor that was not suitable for everyone. Small double is really no more than a single room with a very very small double in, not suitable for two people.
We went out one day and came back to find someone in the house doing repairs without being warned. Also was never given an inventory and when it came to getting cash deposit back were told we had more or less stolen a throw from the front room. £20 was then deducted from our deposit even though we assured her we had not stolen anything. This has left my Mum very distressed as she has never been accused of stealing before and why would anyone steal a throw!! So for future guests ask for an inventory as you have no come back if accused of taking something.

Until this incident, even with other issues we would have rebooked as is one of the cheapest holiday homes we have been to but wonder now if the reason is because no one rebooks! Whilst I am sure there are dishonourable people out there I doubt if they could afford these sorts of breaks, whilst we can afford our own throws!!!
