Caught the Hopper22 bus from Torquay to Sheldon and walked back to Torquay via the SWCP. You will need to quite fit and will take about 5 hours walking with a few steep hills.
We did this walk several times and it's the best way to see all the views and shops around you . There are plenty of places to stop along the way to either rest or take in the views . Again highly recommended .
Have done this moderate walk many times from both directions. The path is excellent though there are steps both up and down no matter which way you do it. Starting from Torquay the walk can be combined with a visit to the prehistoric Kents Cavern. This is a short walk from the Meadfoot beach end through either a wooded pathway or across the Ilsham Green long meadow. One can then stroll through “Wellswood village” where Me and Mrs Jones café / deli and Kents Pub are both excellent choices for refreshments. Enjoy.
I stayed at Daishes Devonshire Hotel which is good value for money. At the side of the hotel is a road pointing to Daddyhole Plain approx half mile walk.
Daddyhole Plain is cliffetop plain overlooking the most beautiful English Rivera coastline you will ever see in the uk. In the corner of the Plain field is a coast watch station open to the public. Passing through the gap at the side of the station you are about to experience a one and half mile coastal path walk you will never forget on a nice sunny day. Stunning views all along the path. As photos show do look out for the sea made arch called London Bridge shortly followed by the WW2 lookout pill box manned 24/7 by local defence force looking over Torbay for possible enemy invasion craft whereby they could detonate undersea mines. The path continues to exit by the Imperial Hotel on the edge of Torquay town. Giving the chance to do the walk in reverse.
Some of the steps on the walk from Torquay to Meadfoot along the coastal path are quite challenging but found plenty of places to rest and admire the views. It is a peaceful walk, you can go at your own pace, and it is really worth the effort. The park area just before Meadfoot is lovely for sitting a while on a bench, have a picnic, walk the dog.... Etc. Do try even a little bit of this walk - the views alone are worth the effort.
