“Good value overall, the staff worked hard to make the break enjoyable.”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

Our recent break at this hotel was satisfactory in all areas. Wayne our driver did a good job throughout the stay. The bar staff along with the restaurant staff were friendly & helpful. Other reviewers comment on small portions, I would endorse those, as I found the portions at meal times to be child size. EG garlic mushroom starter 3 tiny bits of mushroom in a ramakiin with barely a spoonful of sauce, with a few undressed leaves on the side. Main course portions also miserly, Others suggest asking for more if not adequate, I did not feel brave enough to ask. Yes some things had far too much salt in them, eg soup.
I too was miffed that the 3 hour free bar was changed to a 4 a day limit. No point in complaining T & C's will have that covered. The entertainment made up any shortfall in satisfaction that may have been felt.
Overall for what the break cost it was fair value for money.
Dave & Chris.

We have just returned from a really pleasant four nights stay.

First of all, Sherarings are offering a great value coach holiday including 2 excellent excursions to Plymouth (stopping at very eerie Princetown on way back for obligatory Devon cream tea) and delightful, Georgian Teignmouth. Driver Darren was a mine of information, full of interesting titbits en route.

We enjoyed all our meals at the hotel. Our waitress Sharen really looked after us. One evening we slipped away early to see Colin Blunstone (of Zombies 60's band fame) in concert at nearby Paignton but Sharen still ensured we had our full evening meal, - and still got us away in good time to catch the local bus (very low fares, very reliable, with bus stop straight opposite the hotel).

The changeover to the voucher system for drinks was no bother to us as we never managed to take advantage of our full quota anyway. Very nice atmosphere in the ballroom (the two bar ladies are so welcoming) and TV lounge proved to be a quiet spot to just sit and read the newspapers.

Although hotel is a little way from the seafront, it's quite convenient for walking to nearby beauty spot Cockington. We were so lucky to go there on a really warm, sunny morning. Recommended.

Our room was fine and was always kept perfectly tidy.

Overall, not untypically, hotel neds continued maintenance/minor improvements but its hardworking and thoughtful staff ensure everyone has a good time.

That's our opinion, anyway!

Keith & Lyn

Hi, so pleased the voucher system worked for you. You can now use your vouchers for teas, coffees and hot chocolate anytime during the day. Thank you for your compliments about the staff and I will make sure Darren is aware of your comments.

just returned from a 5 day break staying at the Tor park. first we were informed by shearings just days before our departure that they had removed the free bar, and made it a voucher system instead with 4 vouchers per day, my upset is that they changed what I had booked. without regard to contract. there were a lot of very unhappy customers this week, ours was the first holiday to be effected in this way. it was the staff I felt sorry for in the hotel, they had to deal with the flack from this and it isnt there fault. shame on you shearings.

the journey down to torquay was lovely we had a lovely friendly helpful driver called wayne who pointed out places of interest and was the same throughout our stay, full of knowlege, he was happy to pass on his geographical knowledge whilst not being overpowering, thank you wayne.
our check in was quick and efficent and our room adequate, although very very hot in the bathroom as the radiatior couldnt be turned off.

we were served in the dining room mainly by sharon, who was friendly and efficient but the food i would say was just ok. soup tasteless and main meals small in portion size and one day so much salt it blew you away. I had salad on last night which was lovely, I wish i had sampled earlier as i would have had those than the main meal hot option. the breakfast was ok, i had kippers one day and wish i had had them before.

the bar was staffed by two lovely ladies, friendly and efficient. again the change from free bar to voucher system left us feeling cheated, not that we may have had more than the 4 drinks but it took away that choice and it was the underhand way it was done, I fear for jobs at the hotel with this introduction.

susie q the comare was lovely and friendly, althoug unable to sing for us due to throat difficulties she provide entertainment in the form of quizzes and the usual bingo and played a variety of music for alll kinds of dancing, the guest artists on two evenings were just ok in my opinion. the jokes a bit close to the knuckle for my liking.

the hotel is situated as others had said a walk into town but bus stop outside. I got a day rover pass for £4.70 which allowed unlimited travel around torbay for the day. i managed to see torquay, paington and brixham and enjoyed.

all in all a decent 2 star break. would i come again. sadly no, shearings underhanded way that they have treated us customers has put me and others right off.......

the staff at this hotel are the best asset, shame on you shearings for leaving them to do the dirty work. you could have at least left if for new bookings.

The staff in this hotel are some of the best we have had ,they could not do enough for you.
The food was ok portions were a bit small but sufficient and that suited us.The drinks and bar service was exellent as always some people obuse the free bar and understandably I here Shearings are going to stop this facility .
Our driver Graham was exellent ,full of info and jokes far better than some we have had .
Nice big room very clean .The lounge was very small and the ballroom very crowded and difficult to get a seat .
All in all exellent all inclusive break .For what we paid anyone who complains if they have take there glass back must be looking for faults.
Pop.

We have just returned from a 5 day break at this Shearings hotel and i would like to say what a really nice time we had. Firstly let me say if you are going to this hotel as with most Shearings dont expect four star, you get what you pay for. Having said that we found this hotel to be spotlessly clean from our bedroom to all the public areas were the same. The staff are really pleasant, courteous, and hard working, especilally the two girls behind the bar, (Fran & Trina)
Although the portions at meal times are a bit on the small side it is good and substantial and if you dont think you have enough just ask for more. (Entertaiment) bingo, quiz, cabaret, was quite good, but the best entertainer is the hotel compere Susie B a really cheerful and charming lady. The hotel is ituated about a quarter of an hour walk from Torquay but this isnt a problem as the bus stops outside the hotel. On a personal note i would just like to thank ALL THE STAFF for making our stay so enjoyable. Would we consider staying at this hotel in future DEFINETLY
