Stayed here april 9th till april 13th, Loved the self service restuarant, excellent food, eat as much as you like, plenty of choice. Good enetertainment and we had a great week. Excellent value for money and we would definitely stay here again. We dont go on holiday to moan about the colour of the wallpaper or the odd marks on the carpets here and there, we had a nice clean room, good food, good entertainment.
We had a great night out at the babbacombe theatre well worth a visit If you believe all the negative reports on trip advisor you would never go anywhere. If you pay lemonade prices then dont expect champagne. If we go to torquay again we will be staying at the rainbow hotel, Thankyou for a lovely
week

On booking as part of a delegation we were assured a "disabled friendly" room (the hotel has one), when we arrived the hotel denied all knowledge of such a conversation. The mark of a good level of customer service should be how they deal with a complaint, and their response to the problem was simply there as nothing they could do, it was eventually resolved but the level of customer service was shocking. However they did give us a extra night Free of Charge and a bottle of wine with Dinner on the last night after a lot of arguing in public. When we went to claim our Free bottle of wine, no one had told the dining room staff and the bar was closed - luckily we had a letter of proof.
The Hotel does have ramped access and there is a small lift to all floors (except the pool), there are stair lifts on all stairs if you have difficultly walking but useless if you are a full time wheelchair user. It is set up for elderly guests.
The room was adequate nothing more, only just clean. There was thick dust in corners and under the radiator, there is no excuse for this.
The food was average, breakfast was an English Breakfast and/or cereal/toast no continental option at all. The hot food was not kept warm very well and often the bacon was cold by the time you sat down to eat it. The toasters were so slow it would have been quicker to make you're own bread; Tea/coffee was from a machine not freshly made, juice/water is also from a machine.
Dinner was always soup for starters and a buffet style main course with a carvery option, it gets very samey after a few nights there. The dessert selection was always the same and again a buffet option, no obvious list saying what the selection was. The quality of the food was akin to average school dinner quality not what I would expect from a hotel in a tourist resort.
There is entertainment every night which we didn't use but the one night they used the ballroom (our delegation had the room for the rest of the time), we discovered our room was directly below and meant we had no peace until midnight. From what we heard/saw of the entertainment (from walking past) it was designed for elderly guests.
There is very little sound insulation in between rooms so you can hear conversations, TV's in other rooms and every little bit of sound from the corridor.
The Hotel does have a small swimming pool in the middle of the hotel, which is what I suspect makes it a 3 star hotel.
If you are disabled (or want a decent hotel) book into the Premier Inn 50 yards down the road. I won't be returning

Room Tip: Avoid a room that is close to or under/above the ballroom or "club rainbow" as you will ge...

I stayed over the Easter Weekend for a conference and so the locality near to the conference centre was very convenient although, it's quite a way from the town and do for holidays the location would not be as convenient.

The rooms were clean and made up every day but were very tired and shabby.
The hotel has a very unusual layout and you can easily get lost but you soon get used to going up and down stairs and through door after door.
The food was very good, we had dinner and breakfast and it was served in a buffet fashion. There was lots of choice and it was very nice. They catered well for my dietary requirements.

Overall very good value and good food but far from luxury.

We have just returned from a stay at this hotel which is situated only a short walk from the beach and COULD be a very nice hotel However we got the key to our room which was in a maze of corridors and opened the door to be greeted with a room that stunk of a toilet, crumpled unironed bed linen , tatty broken furniture, stained sticky carpet, broken handle on window which was very dirty, the walls were tatty and dirty and either patched with filler or stained, the bathroom had no shower or hose attachment and was very smelly and hairs in bath. i complained to front desk who offered me the choice of another room this time situated in the newer part of the hotel, this room was a lot better much cleaner and had bshower in bath and didnt smell etc, the other problem with this hotel is the sound proofing is extremely poor, you can hear other peoples conversations in rooms , toilets even walkming past , so wasnt a restful stay. there is an iron available but no ironing board. there needs to be major investment in this hotel as it could be a lovely hotel but we wont stay again , best western in future, or even premier inn or travel lodge but most certainly not here.

Room Tip: ask for the newer side of the hotel on upper floor if possible.

Stayed here as part of a delegation as attending a conference in Torquay.
On the positives, the food was very good-wholesome and my vegan diet fully catered for. The staff were really delightful and couldn't do enough for you.
My room was clean.
On the negatives, no tissues in the room and the quality of tea and coffee was very poor. The room was basic and at the decor is very 1970s.
I would return, as the service was excellent.
