The Elmdene is close to The Sea,Torquay Station, Bus stop,& is a 15' or so walk to Torquay. All good reasons for using The Elmdene, inside you will find a very well decorated Hotel kept scrupulously clean. An extensive Breakfast Menu using local produce and cooked to perfection. You will also find a well stocked bar.And if you stay in, a pleasant sitting room overlooking the Garden. The rooms can be seen on Elmdene's w/site,we stayed in No1,a beautiful room. Carol & Andy Gibbs own & run The Elmdene and you will not find a more friendly accommodating couple, you will arrive a stranger & leave a Friend. They have many people who like us have returned many times, Carol & Andy continue to maintain the very high standards we first found in 2008.You will not find another Elmdene,no more than you will a Carol & Andy

Room Tip: Have a look at the W/site. They are all quiet, as The Elmdene is in a quite area.

This was our first visit to the Elmdene. We were looking for a small and nice quiet Hotel on the Southcoast following a cruise out of Southampton. Because we were unfamiliar with Torquay area we choose to book the hotel based on trip advisor reviews by other travelers. It turned out we did the right thing. From the moment we set foot in the Elmdene we felt welcome and well taken care off. Our hosts Andy and Carol were very friendly and went out of their way to assist us. The room was very well appointed and spotlessly clean. The breakfast menu was varied and used quality products cooked to order. A very good start of the day. Torquay is beautifully situated on the English Riviera and is a nice base to explore the coast. Two activities we enjoyed were visiting Greenway, Agathe Christies' summer home, situated in beautiful area. Tip: book your reserved parking on line. The other activity was the round Robin Gold Tour, out of Torquay, taking you by dedicated open top double deck bus, 90 minute boat trip on the Dart river, a visit to Dartmouth, a foot ferry and a 30 minute steam train to Paignton before the return trip back to Torquay. We can certainly recommend the Elmdene to anyone seeking quality accommodations in a friendly setting.

Room Tip: We had room nr 3 which was perfect.

Just spent 9 nights at the Elmdene our first holiday in England for a long while and we were not dissapointed. On arrival we were met by carol and andy who showed us to our room on 2nd floor room 6 very well presented, comfortable bed everything you could think of was provided, special touches like small fridge with fresh milk and a bottle of filtered water everyday. Room was spotless as was rest of house.Andy and carol were very friendly made you feel you had known them ages treat every guest the same, excellant customer service.Great choice of breakfast very well cooked and made to order.Easy access to train station and bus route, lovely walk to harbour.while we were there we met a lovely couple Den and Ed and who are one of many couples who return every year. Nothing was to much trouble for carol and andy ,and we will be back next year, up the Avenue.

This Victorian house has been modernized in a very tasteful way making it very well suited to vacation accommodation. The owners are a very likeable and helpful couple, who gratifyingly are also excellent cooks. The weather was not good when we stayed but they suggested some great ideas for things to do. The highlight was a steam train-bus-boat round trip embracing Totness (up the River Dart) and Dartmouth. A highlight of that trip was a visit to the fabulous 1930s country home of D'Oyley Carte, the opera promoter. The Elmdene is just 100 yards from the railway station, (which has been featured in several movies of tales by Agatha Christie) and this provides a convenient start for the tour which is highly recommended. The owners also provided excellent suggestions for dining, including one of the best fish restaurants we have ever experienced. From the hotel, the beach is a few minutes walk, and the centre of Torquay is about a 20 minute walk along the prom or along the cliff walk. Torquay is a town that has obviously seen much better days, but the Elmdene will maximize your enjoyment of its faded beauty.

Room Tip: Try for one with a south-facing view.

Just on our way home from a weeks stay in room 5, lovely place with great hosts. Room absolutely spotless, bar area lovely, breakfasts absolutely delicious. Really close to the beach and town, visited some lovely places nearby too. Only disappointment was the weather but you can't book that!! Would definitely return .
