“great value for money”
Reviewed 20 March 2012

Have just returned from a four day break, and I have to say the bad reviews for this hotel do not reflect the true picture! We were greeted by Debbie on arrival, really friendly and nothing too much trouble she even opened the bar early for us after handing out all the room keys, nice touch after a long journey
Rooms are clean and towels are changed daily if required, our bed was lovely and comfortable with crisp clean sheets.
We were on a half board basis, and all of the meals were hot, tasty and served with a smile by our waitress Nula, you have to order your evening meal at breakfast time, but nothing wrong with this and you have a choice of a vegetarian option every evening as well.
Wouldn't hesitate in rebooking this hotel as had a lovely time, and enjoyed the entertainment on Saturday night, there is just one gripe, the barman Jamie isn't as friendly as the rest of the staff, and this is a shame, try to talk to him and you get the odd grunt, maybe he was having an off weekend....

Dear Reviewer

Thank you very much your taking the time to post your review, we are grateful for your positive comments.

I will pass your kind words to Debbie & Nula and i will also pass on your comments about Jamie too , and makesure he greets everyone with a smile in future, this is however the first bad comment we have had about him, so lets hope its the last.

We do hope that you rebook and visit us again very soon.

Thanks again.

Kindest Regards

Michelle Lyons

they say you get what you pay for and with this hotel its very true. The room was basic but clean floorboards very squeaky shower hard to control temperature. food was not the best and had to be ordered in advance. entertainment was poor that most people had early nights.on a good point bar prices were not too bad. booked through just go holidays . got worse on way back driver decided to leave motorway and take us cross country so a 3hour coach journey took nearly 6.

Room Tip: room 14 was good

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for your review i was sorry and suprised to hear that you did not enjoy the food as no complaints regarding the food have been made to either the restaurant or reception during your stay??
As i have said before in my previous responses we are very aware that the floor boards do creek and as the building is over 100yrs old we like to think it adds to the character.
This is also the first time that anyone has commented that they did not enjoy the entertainment and as far as people going to bed early this did not reflect in the bar sales.
As far as the drive home was concerned this is obviously through no fault of ours.

Many Thanks

Stayed in the Seascape as a choral competition weekend run by "Majestic Holidays". Our party filled the hotel and as we are able bodied we got room 69, mentioned in another review. It was 31 steps to reception but this made sense as the hotel is two buildings joined together, how much time do you spend in your room? The food was good, the staff obliging and the room immaculate. Thanks.

Room Tip: Choose a low room number

this is like living in a residential care home for the elderly, average age of the guests must be around 80 years.our room smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke, when i asked at reception for the room to be fumigated a cleaner ? who happened to be in reception at that time strongly denied that this was the case, and became very confrontational, however the receptionist intervened and said the problem would be addressed, and it was. the rooms are very basic, and decorated in the style of the eighties, as is the rest of the hotel.i dont know the room rates for this hotel, as we came via a coach tour operator, but i guess they must be quite low, as we didnt pay much for the package, and this is reflected in the quality and quantity of the food. the only positive thing i can say about this hotel is the fact that for the duration of our stay (4 days) we had a pretty young waitress, who was both efficient and charming.its true, you get what you pay for, here you dont pay much, and you dont get much.

I was shocked to hear that one of our rooms smelt of smoke as it clearly states throughout the hotel that the hotel is infact TOTALLY non-smoking and we have the latest highly sensitive fire alarm system installed to prevent people from smoking within the building. We always do our utmost to ensure that this does not happen however some guests choose to ignore the rule and try to smoke within the building even by putting shower caps over the sensors!! Even though we do provide a smoking area with shelter if it is bad weather.
As a response to the age our our guests we do no like to discrimate agianst any guests and all ages are very welcome!
The Hotel is decorated in neutral colours which is clean and fresh it would not look appropriate to ultra modenise a Victorian building.

Stayed at the Seascape as part of a 3 day cheap coach break. Please do not be put off by other reviews.
Yes there are creaking floorboards. Food portions smallish and frozen vegetables. However basic the rooms they are immaculate and comfortable. If you require more tea, milk in room you only have to ask. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
Entertainment on a par with all hotels providing accommodation for cheap coach holidays aimed at over 55,s
However if you are looking to stay in and around one of the most lovely parts of England you could do a lot worse than stay here.
Hotel in a peaceful and safe area of the town.and only 10 minutes walk to seafront.
I paid £37 for a largish single room -Bed and Half Board and a sea view- good fair quality at a below average price.
If you want more than a basic clean and comfortable place you should book into a 4 star and pay a higher price.

Room Tip: Ask for room with sea view.
