This is such a fantastic restaurant and take away, luckily just around the corner, food always good and very good value, i especially like the tandoori mixed grill, it isn't hot and spicy but you get a lot of good meats and king prawn

As someone who frequently requests a table for one, it was lovely to have such great friendly service. I was recommended here by some local friends and glad I went! The food was well priced and delicious. Food came quickly and the table was well tended too. Would definitely visit again!
I especially recommend the spicy fish cakes!

Had a takeaway after a couple of quiet pints in the Village. Friendly staff but above all great food at reasonable prices. We come here quite a lot but thought it justified a more recent review.

I went to Cafe Indiya with my friend for dinner after a tiring day of travel, and we asked for a table for two. We were made to wait in the bar area for a few minutes before we could be given a table. After a few minutes, we were given what I would call the worst table in the restaurant (Right in the middle of a narrow passageway, next to a big and very noisy group of 20-ish people, and the passing waiters could knock things over from our table) when there were other good tables lying free till we left (Also they were clearly not reserved, and a few 'non-indian' people coming after us were given those tables spontaneously).
After a long wait (as usual with most Indian restaurants in the UK), the food arrived and it was PATHETIC (from the standards of an Indian at least). "Chana masala" was just Chickpeas stir-fried with Tomato paste, "Dal Tarka" had no "Tarka" at all. "Mallaya Paneer" had VERY little paneer and contained pineapples (really guys?? but maybe the pineapple part was written on the menu and I did not read it). Can't really complain about the "Garlic naan" though.
And most of all, the portion-size of even the main dish was not any more than a side-dish. Had we not ordered an extra improvised dish just to try it, we wouldn't have had enough to feed us, when we had anticipated that we were already ordering a bit more than we needed (this was not just expectation, but experience from many Indian restaurants in the UK).

But still everything was fine and we focused on eating and finished the food (which anyway was way too less in portion size) as were damn hungry and we don't like wasting even a little piece of food which can be eaten.

We thought that we will just give our feedback on the food and there comes the worst part. The waiter comes and asks if we were done. We say yes, and my friend tells him that everything was okay but we were just disappointed with the food (yes. We just said that).

Suddenly the waiter gets angry, changes stance and starts shouting at, and ridiculing us showing other people and saying, "Where's the food then? You say the food was bad? You LICKED it." He said the "licked it" part to the other people a number of times I can't even remember, and tried to make us feel bad for god knows what.

Even though after that, the manager came and asks us what the problem was, we explained, and he said he was sorry, I would never forget this experience at Cafe Indiya, starting from getting the worst table in the restaurant, to pathetic food, to the waiter ridiculing us.

Decide for yourself if you still want to go to this place. :)

Had a tasty meal but sadly the evening was spoiled by the Manager who refused to apply the 2 for 1 offer published in local paper, making a whole variety of excuses including 'the system doesn't accept it', (an Indian version of 'The computer says No'). A great shame as apart from the extra cost involved, it was his terrible attitude and arrogance that made matters far worse. So beware - he'll come up with any excuse to avoid applying the offer, (albeit you'll get a lecture about how you're wrong when requesting it - without extra charge)!
