“A very nice property in a perfect location”

Okay, this is a very honest review and as accurate as I can be.

The location of this house is perfect. You are within a couple of minutes walk to the train and bus station. You look out over the sea but you have a short (5/10 minute walk) to the beach. To the left it is a 12 minute walk to Tesco or 15 minutes to Sainsbury's and to the right is a 5/10 minute walk to a good selection of high street shops, pubs and cafes.

The house is lovely and was mostly very clean apart from a few glasses, plates and in the door of the fridge. The owners have decorated it modestly and have managed to provide great comfort in the sofas and beds (I have never slept so well whilst on holiday). There are 3 rooms on the ground floor where you will find 2 double bedrooms (one en-suite) and one bunk room. They are all quite small so you have to squeeze round the bed in the master and very little space for children to play in the bunk room. I only have two slight niggles about the ground floor and this is only because I have a chronic illness and believe it is important for other people with illnesses or asthma to know - there was a lot of black mold near the ceiling of the en-suite bathroom and the master bedroom smelt strongly of damp. The smell wasn't so bad after a couple of days and a good airing. It is to be expected near the sea but just be aware.

The upstairs views were stunning, It was brilliant to wake to such a fabulous site each morning. The kitchen was perfect and so well equipped and had the best sea views. You wouldn't be bored with the selection of dvd's and cd's. They have thought of everything. Now, the living room is unusual! There is a lot of furniture in a small area which is fine as long as you do not have toddlers as there is very little space for them to crawl around.

Personally I didn't like the clutter of the outdoor cushions in the already cramped area but that's just me because I'm a clean freak. It was also a stress to have to remember to put the bins out and think about where on earth to put them - something I wasn't expecting to do on my holiday!!

The good definitely out ways the negatives. I still loved the property and location and you probably wouldn't find better in such a perfect location. I would highly recommend it to anyone and I am planning to go back some day. It's the only place I have ever wanted to return to in my 20 years of holidaying.

The owners left a bunch of flowers, milk, bread, scones, clotted cream and jam which was lovely. There was also hand soup and washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and toilet roll.

I hope the owners do not take offence to some of my comments - I just wanted to be honest.

Hi and thank you for your review for Bayview Cottage.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay and we apreciate your comments both good and not so good.
We've just had a few days ourselves in the property and noticed immediately the coving in the ensuite. This has been rectified with specialist damp blocker, undercoat and anti-mould paint so this should prevent any return in the future. Unfortunately as the ensuite has no window, ventilation is only by way of the extractor which is on a timer connected to the light so being a bathroom, it will always be susceptible to moisture. I understand when you say the cushions for the outside sofa add to potential clutter but with storage at premium, we have to be 'inventive' in where we can store them and keep them in easy reach for guests should the sun burst through the clouds. We have some plans to extend the outside decking area which will in turn give an opportunity to create some additonal storage for these. Like you, we're not clutter fans. I wouldn't worry to much about the bin collection day, you are on holiday after all. Its something our housekeeper thankfully will deal with, should a guest not put the bin out for collection.

Once again thank you for leaving your review and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

“Fantastic location, amazing views, perfect for our family holiday.”
Reviewed 1 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

An upside down cottage. ...The bedrooms and bathrooms are downstairs with the stairs leading to the open plan sitting, dining and kitchen areas. All of these look out onto a perfect view of the bay and St Michaels mount. They have equipped this cottage with everything you need, from a full under counter fridge and separate freezer to a George forman grill or a sandwich press. There is a large collection of dvds and music or play station 3 games to entertain you in the evening. We found the location of this cottage ideal. Easy to get to some of the most beautiful beaches in the area and Berlinda has even put together a guide to the beaches. There were too many for us to see them all. We were also a 5 minute walk to the train station and able to catch a train to St Ives. Also there are numerous attractions to see and again we didn't see half of what we wanted to. To make our stay even easier tesco, sainsburys and morrisons are all just down the road! We are definitely coming back here again.

“Wow the best place we have stayed in Cornwall”
Reviewed 20 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We took our time to drive down enjoying the fab round robin trip to Dartmouth so arrived later than planned. What a welcome greeted us. A beautiful view of the bay on climbing the stairs. The welcome Pack is so welcome, scones are fantastic even passed inspection from mum and she is a county food judge. Milk in fridge coffee and tea and lovely flowers on the side the only thing missing was toilet roll but mum being mum had packed a roll. The cottage is very spacious and beautifully clean. We go to Cornwall every year due to it being so dog friendly and this is the best cottage we have stayed in. All details of the cottage, places to eat an things to do even down to places to go with the dog are provided in the cottage in easy to read folders. If you are thinking of booking please please do it was the best holiday ever even travelling with grumpy parents a overworked husband and the only sane one of the family the dog. Please eat at the admiral benbow what a pub will not give it away but please do if offered a pub tour with the local knowledge punter.
I cannot express how good the holiday was from start to finish we will be back.

“Ideal Cottage and Location”
Reviewed 15 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Just finished breakfast looking out at the Bay through large picture windows. Cottage was very clean on our arrival, very well equipped and is comfortable for our group of 4 adults and 2 teenagers. Only a few minutes walk to the Town center, Railway and Bus stations. Great views of the Bay and St. Michaels Mount. Be sure to visit the Minack Theater in Porthcurno and if possible take in a performance, the "Wild Oats" performance last night was a real treat. Too many other great things to do and see to list them all.
Would recommend to anyone(stairs might be an issue for people with disabilities) who is looking for accommodations of this nature.

“Beautiful well equipped cottage in wonderful location”

We recently stayed at Bayview Cottage with our dog with the intention of having a relaxing week away with lots of walks and pub lunches en route. Taking the dog with us tends to limit our accomodation choices so I was pleasently surprised when we were able to rent Bayview as long as the dog was on her best behaviour.
Booking the cottage was very easy and the owner not only kept in touch about the rental but sent us additional information about things to see and do in West Cornwall including useful info on dog friendly beaches prior to our stay.
The directions to the cottage were straight forward and although there is only street parking we managed to park on the road to the cottage with no problems (we have a large pick up truck).
The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything possible you could imagine. A lot of care and thought has obviously gone into setting up this cottage so that it actually felt like a home from home and a cream tea along with fresh flowers had been left awaiting our arrival. Additionally there is a large garage section to the cottage which houses the washing machine and tumble dryer but which is also ideal for storing / drying out muddy walking boots, beach towels or wet suits / surf boards (if you're holidaying with children) etc which helps to keep the cottage itself uncluttered and sand free.
The cottage has lovely sea views from the roof terrace (including views of St Michaels Mount) and is well placed for exploring other parts of Cornwall. Although we had the car both the train and bus station were only 5 minutes away and both run an excellent service if you wanted to hang your car keys up for the week.
There was lots of information in the cottage about Penzance itself and places to visit and other guests had left their recommendations as well; this was really useful.
The dog got her little legs walked off with trips to Lands End, Sennen Cove, St Just, Cape Cornwall (amazing coastal walks if you're ok with heights and a bit of climbing) as well as more sedate walks to Newlyn, Mousehole, Lamorna and St Michaels Mount. We could have explored loads more but ran out of time.
Understandably you can't leave your dog unsupervised in the cottage but we found loads of dog friendly pubs so we ate out at lunchtime and cooked at the cottage in the evening although we had some wonderful fish and chips one night (always taste better when straight from the sea). There are lots of well known supermarkets near by if you're cooking for a family however we used the local shops and farmers markets as well as buying fish direct from the harbour. If you want restaurants however there are lots in Penzance which cover all tastes and budgets.
The cottage location itself is very quiet and we were happy to just relax and watch the sun go down of an evening from the sofa on the sun terrace with a glass of wine in hand. There's no real night life but that suited us just fine.
If you're travelling with children and the rain hits there are several tv's in the cottage, dvd player along with large selection of dvd's, books, board games, playstation with games, cd player, ipod dock and very good wi-fi access.
You are required to pay a returnable £150 damages deposit at the time of booking which I received back in the post first thing Tuesday morning having left the cottage on the Saturday.
All in all we had a very enjoyable week away and will be looking to return again asap.
