“good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2012

first ever coach holiday, traveled with alfa to newquay staying at the eliot hotel.
we thought the hotel was very good, very clean and good food.
alfa travel not so good, long time spent from pick up to departure point, contractors coach used instead of one of alfas coaches the coach was old (11years) and very bumpy and not suitable for such a long trip, could not understand what the driver was saying, sounded like he forgot to put his false teeth in.
would istay at the eliot again, without a doubt, would i go with alfa travel,no.

If you go off trip advisor map you will end up 3 miles away in the wrong location. Nice hotel big and comfortable. Visited this hotel last week on a coach tour

The hotel stay was part of a 5 day trip with Alfa Travel for about 150 pounds we were picked up relativly close to our home in Liverpool, driven down to Newquay by a very friendly driver who coudnt do enough for all the passengers. He was constantly checking that the temperature was OK ( most of the passengers were elderly) and cracking rubbish but inoffensive jokes.
Arrived in time for the "Grant Mitchell" lookalike manager to welcome us, a quick wash and first of the 3 course evening meals. Great selection for the price and I have eaten worse in some 3 stars hotels! Excellent waiters even if English isnt their first language. Put it this way we went out on the last night (nothing wrong with the Hotel food just a special occasion) and spent half the toal cost of the holiday on 1 meal. (Seafood steak bar just around the corner very good and big portions if you like your seafood)

Entertainment on every night we were there, not our style but did catch some of them and very good they were to. Usual type of stuff, guitar vocalists and multi instrumental vocalist who did a great version of battling banjoes
Room was a bit small but we were only sleeping in there as we were always out on trips (I can't spell excursuins) 2 included in price Eden project and St Ives.
Eden project was amazing but check before you go if you have problems walking or with the heat. It was foggy the day we went but obviously still hot in the bio-domes.

St Ives was very pretty but a bit of a rip off as they will not allow coaches to drop off in the town but make them pay £12 to park and then charge you a pound each way on the park and ride. Yes you can walk it but your unsure of that as you dont know where you are going. Come on St Ives £1 return maybe but each way its highway robbery.

Final point. Best Shower I have had known in a Hotel, very hot if you wanted it that way and a water massage as well

Stayed at the Eliot last July, was very impressed by the welcoming reception and how nice the staff were. Everything was great until I noticed dried blood on my bed sheet on the first night which wasn't mine! The meals were under cooked and the meat gristly. The toast had mould on by the end of the week and the pool which was meant to be heated was not and I couldn't breathe when I climbed in it was so cold! The location however was perfect! Close to the zoo, swimming centre, shops and beaches. Such a shame the hotel let us down.

I’m not staying at the hotel right now but my elderly parents are. They arrived 24 hours ago with a coach load of senior folk and I am being told that everyone is having the time of their lives. I have spoken to the hotel staff a couple of times myself as I’ve needed their assistants on a couple of matters. I have to say that I simply cannot believe just how friendly and accommodating I have found them to be. So helpful in fact that I feel compelled to write this revue here and now. Absolute “special thanks” to Karen and June at the hotel along with the hotel Manager, I greatly appreciate your help due to you guys, I know that mum and dad will continue to have what they are describing to me as a fantastic Christmas stay over at the Eliot Hotel, Newquay.
