I stayed here with my mom and my son for 4 nights. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Margaret, the hotel owner, who had only taken over the hotel in July. She explained about breakfast, where the bar is, where the lounge is etc, and then showed us to our room. The room was pleasant and it had a lovely view of the beach that was just down the road. The room was quite clean but if you looked closely there were a few gatherings of dust in places (top of headboard,on he lid of the kettle). The beds themselves and bathroom were fine though.
The breakfast served at the hotel is very nice, and they go out of their way to cater to everyone's requests. Aside from the full English breakfast there is also a good range of cereals on offer (weetabix, muesli, cornflakes, coco pops,Frosties etc). There is also your teas, coffee, juice and toast.
The draw to this hotel has to be the location. It is minutes walk to Towan beach, where there is an aquarium and places to hire wet suits/surf boards/deck chairs etc. Coming out of the hotel and turning right, takes you up to plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.
Overall, the hotel was a pleasant place to stay but it does need a bit of TLC as it's looking a bit tired. Speaking to Margaret herself, she said that the hotel needs a bit of work, and they are planning to do a fair bit to the rooms etc during the winter months, so hopefully this will help. It has a lot of potential and Margaret is really nice. I wish her all the best at the hotel for the future.
