This place is a part of the university and the architecture is nothing short of amazing.
The ceilings are about twenty feet high and the walls are covered in a plethora of famous faces all of whom have been to 1815.
The comfortable Chesterfield sofas where you sink deep to enjoy what you have purchased from the bar whether it is just a coffee, midday snack or whatever else they have on offer that particular day.
The room is absolutely fascinating with so many pictures to take in whilst enjoying your coffee.
When we left we went through to where you need a pass to enter but the guy at the bar said it was okay.
We saw the Debating room with its sumptuous chairs and the debating seat. As you look you really could imaging in years gone by debates sometimes hairy I would think.
Educational is the word to use thrown in with a decent cup of coffee, at a reasonable price, what more do you want?.

To be fair to 1815 it's a nice place to sit and have a drink with friends, even if it a little expensive. However, certain members of the bar staff are extremely unpleasant, making innapropriate comments and using homophobic language when speaking to myself and friends I was with. Really discouraged me from returning, even though I am a Union member.

Hello, and thanks for your review.

As it is well known, the Union (including the 1815 bar) is a safe space for anyone, and the team serving from behind the counter is and always has been a diverse group of individuals coming from different places, and areas of life.

I can guarantee no homophobic ideologies are being cultivated in our place, but would love to hear more from you in case you'd like to share in detail what made you feel unpleasant.

You can contact me directly through our Facebook page, or email (barmanager@cus.org).

Really good place to stop for afternoon cup of tea and a piece of cake. Comfortable, airy and really friendly staff. Good prices too.

The 1815 is one of my favourite haunts in Cambridge. Sam Heap can make a mean espresso martini which I thoroughly recommend.

Amazing drinks, bartenders eager to make a cocktail up to your like and even create new ones. Food is good, and the place is just beautiful.
Tip, if you come on a day with a speech from the union going on you might catch a glimpse of the speaker at the bar.
