“High standard of food”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

Was only in Bristol for one night, and checked out trip advisor for a good place to eat.. as this was close to the Raddison, plumped for this place. Went in to book a table at 5.30pm and found that the place was full for the evening..but I could eat outside... and as it was nice and warm plumped for eating outside, by the canal.
The menu is small, which means that more quality can be given to the food that is served... I had three courses and found that all courses were of a high quality, and the three courses filled me up.
Maybe the gaps in between the courses were sometimes longer than expected.. but it didnt matter...The drinks were quite pricey...a bottle of Argentinian Malbec Santa Ana for 19 quid, mind you I have always liked Santa Ana Malbecs since they produced a chocolate flavoured wine about 7/8 years ago. As I said the food was of very good quality, and the presentation of the food was good. I certainly had no complaints.. and would certainly eat in that restaurant again next time I am in Bristol.. It was very nice to find a restaurant which does not cater for the all you can eat brigade at the cheapest price.. but actually thinks/cares about what food it serves.

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your support of Cherry Duck Bistro and for your very positive 4* review. I would like to inform you that we have relaunched under a new name and concept; IL BACARO venetian bar and kitchen. We offer a great range of Italian Tapas, antipasti, steaks, whole fresh fish and as always great drinks and service.

WE WOULD LIKE TO OFFER YOU +1 A FREE GLASS OF PROSECCO (or wine/beer!) if you come down to visit us. Just flash this message and we shall be glad to welcome you in to our new look venue.

We are currently open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 serving food all day. If you visit before 7pm we have a great lunch and early bird option whereby you can enjoy home-baked bread, olives and dips, a mixed antipasti to start and two Cicchetti (Italian Tapas) of choice for only £10. This makes a great light lunch for 2 or a substantial meal for 1! We offer 2 for 1 cocktails from 3pm-10pm daily made by our top cocktail bartenders, live music every Friday from 5pm and good times to be had always!

Thank you again and kind regards,

Jack Bain

“Quality Food”
Reviewed 1 September 2013 via mobile

First time visiting this place and wanted to check it out given the decent reviews on TA. We visited to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and they kindly gave us the table next to the window upon request. Ordered the Scallops and Rare beef for starters which were both cooked to perfection. The dressings went really well on both starters. Belly pork and wildmushrooms for main. Pork was again, cooked to perfection and the mushrooms and potato was really tasty. I would have preferred crackling with my belly pork but still, a lovely dish. Would recommend this place for a unique tasting experience.

“Great food, slow service”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

This is the second time we have eaten at the Cherry Duck. The food is very good indeed, but the service is a little disappointing. There were no problems with the starter and main course, but the desserts took forever to come - so long in fact that we were thinking about cancelling them. When they finally came (about 15-20 minutes after we had finished our coffees), they were not as good as expected, and there was no explanation or apology regarding why they had been delayed. Overall, a great little restaurant on Bristol's harbourside, but just falling slightly short of the mark.

“will come back again”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

We have been there a second time, and not regreted a minute. I will not contemplate too much, but all was good, the food the atmosphere and the service. They also have a lovely day time menue with lots of lovely sounding salads up to 2pm. Hopehully next time we are in Bristol, we can make it that early.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

We chose to eat here after reading the very good TripAdvisor reviews. When we arrived at 7 pm on the chance of getting a table we were told they were very busy, but if we could finish our meal by 8 pm they could fit us in. We happily agreed as we only wanted two courses.
We ordered and then waited and waited and waited until at 7.45 pm we were served our first course, consisting of three (very tasty) scallops each. On to the main course, again we waited and waited, finally we were served at 8.20 pm. By this time the noise level had reached such a peak that we could not even maintain a conversation.
To sum up, good quality food, if very small servings, spoilt by slow service and unpleasant noise levels.
