“Gorgeous relaxing central hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend away and it couldn't have been nicer!
The parking is VERY secure underground with loads of spaces. On arrival we were offered an upgrade at a reasonable price which included wine! Not a difficult decision!.

The room was spacious with great movies, soft dressing gowns andb great room service. The view of the college green was also beautiful.

This is a great location for exploring Bristol. Parks street is full of great restaurants including Jamie's Italian which was perfect!

The breakfast at the hotel is the best I have ever had and I have stopped in many great hotels. Pancakes, porridge, amazing hash browns, all types of eggs, pastries... You don't need to way again!

The gym was adequate but had no air cone and the tvs were off. The pool was nice but the jacuzzi lacked any jets!

Overall the service was impeccable from booking, per arrival emails, to a beautiful reception and friendly staff. Loved it!

Got a great deal on this one online so paid around £100 for a superior room inc breakfast for the two of us- worth looking on the usual last minute sites as teh Marriots own website was a lot more expensive.

Very grand old hotel in a prime location right on College Green, ideal for city centre @bristol and within walkig distance of Clifton Village.

Everything with the room was great.

Breakfast was a banquet ! wide range of cereals, fruit, continental breakfast and for us brits a traditional cooked full english. Really good quality.

Only negative, and I always do try and be as objective as possible, would be the bar prices, slightly higher than usual and a lot higher than some of the other 4 star hotels around, but I have to say the bar is loveley so if its just a couple of drinks............

Room Tip: Try and get an upgrade if your budget can stretch to it and make sure breakfast is included (£17.50...

We had a function to attend at the hotel and so we booked a room to save taxi fares. We had a queen sized room, beautiful bed and pillows, lovely bathroom, nice and quiet at night , included air con.
Breakfast was a buffet style affair, you were taken to your table by extremley polite staff. A little disappointed in the breakfast itself, the bacon was tasteless and the scrambled eggs equally so, however there was plenty else to choose from.

All the staff were polite , smiled and were friendly at all times, lovely stay great hotel, lovely pool , sauna and steam room as well as gym.

As a Bristolian ex-pat, I have had the opportunity to stay at many of the Hotels in the centre of the city, on the whole I have had nothing but pleasant experiences although they have all been pretty much of a muchness, as has been the respective prices.
I hadn't really considered staying at the Royal before as it was always considerably more expensive than the others, however this time I managed to get a deal that put this place only around £10-15 per night dearer than my usual choices, so i decided to give it a go.
I shalln't go into detail about what the hotel is like, many others have done so already, but what did it for me was the leisure facilities. As far as i am aware none of the other main hotels have facilities to match the Royal, the Sauna, Steam Room and Pool that were located in the hotel.
To me, this made all the difference and for a weekend break it ensured a really relaxing experience, that's why it wins!

Having to travel to Bristol with kids this was the 3rd hotel we've stayed at. chosen for its location and pool facilities for the kids. Room was very spacious and adequately equipped. Pool facilities were excellent as was arrival experience. Unable to comment on wifi connection as the cost was exceptionally high, which is understandable for those guest who can claim the cost as a business expense but not for personal use. Breakfast choice and quality was above average and very child friendly. I do have 2 gripes that would have made the weekend perfect. The service levels in the Club Bar was a little hit and miss, having to wait 30 mins to have order taken was not the best but no such wait during the day time when it was even busier with trade. Secondly, and it's a bit of a tip we used for the 2 other rooms we booked for family on our second night, ask for a room that does not overlook the main road as it's noisy till the earlier hours but that's expected to a certain extent with a central location hotel but better glazing would have certainly helped eliminate most of the noise.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not overlook the main road.
