Stopping off at a B and B in Broadstone we were needing a pub to have something to eat after a stressful 7 and a half hour drive. At the end of the Main Street we spotted the Blackwater Stream with lots of people outside enjoying the heat and drinks. We then noticed it was a Wetherspoon pub, a brand we don’t use, but are aware of as we have a very popular one in our own town. First impressions was how full it was inside and out, it was also dark and extremely hot inside despite the doors being left open. There were quite a few tables that needed cleaning and clearing but the staff were obviously working full out. We decided on the curry meal option which included a curry and a drink and was reasonably priced. Service for drinks was slow but the meals were there within minutes. My curry bowl was full to the brim and my lamb was lovely whilst my partners chicken dish was about half full and the chicken was hard to cut in places. However, the meals were tasty, rice, popaddoms and Nan breads well cooked and for the price, couldn’t be faulted. We decided to have a drink outside afterwards but finding a table without an overflowing, off putting ashtray was difficult. We’re not anti smoking but again if the staff could keep on top of this it would have improved our impression personally.

Hi

Thank you for your feedback, I am very glad you enjoyed your meals with us. We always try to keep on top of our standards inside and in the garden however during busy times this can be difficult.

Again thank you for your feedback and I will take all of it under consideration as we look to improve our pub.

We went for breakfast here last weekend and thought it was fab! Not only was there a good selection, it’s was so cheap and yummy too. Hot drinks are refillable and we even sat out in the sunshine. Couldn’t fault it!

Four of us visited Weatherspoons in Broadstone to try there curry night. Well before half of us had finished paying, the first curry arrived and in 5 minute intervals each persons food arrived. One of the curry's had a very small portion of rice. We asked the lady who delivered the 3rd curry if we could have a little bit more rice.... She stated that they come in pre-portioned packets and if we wanted more would have to pay for more rice... Before muttering an insult under her breath and walked off. Not the best experience and wont be visiting for curry again!!!

We visit this pub nearly every Saturday lunchtime because my husband likes the beer. Over the last year the service has fluctuated from acceptable to dire, but one thing that never changes is the ladies toilets never flush properly. Surely it's worth the time and expense to get these sorted?

Been here many many times regularly in the evenings for meals and drinks and like any pub, the Blackwater Stream has pros and cons. Tonight we went for a meal -quite busy as Friday is one of their busier nights. Only spare table was near the kitchen entrance /exit next to a family who were had a young girl and a baby. The family allowed the child to run around near their table unsupervised and on several occasions, staff comming out of the kitchen nearly collided with her -an accident waiting to happen. Yet neither parents nor staff did anything to prevent a possible accident. Later in the evening after our meal, (after 9pm) I went to the bar to order more drinks -still busy , and found that a young child was actually sat at the bar on one of the high stools accompanied by two ladies. I had to manoeuvre around her to get to the bar. I see nothing wrong with children in pubs, but surely they need to be under control, especially where staff are carrying hot food, and having young children sat at the actual bar at 9.15pm on a busy Friday evening isnt on. Call me old fashioned if you like.

Pros: This pub always has an excellent range of beers, and the food is always very good value and promptly served. Atmosphere is nice although can be a bit noisy. Toilets are some of the best. Has the carories listed against each menu item which is excellent for us weightwatchers.

Cons: Staff resources concentrated in kitchen so bar service can be very slow. Tables and chairs tend to have a mind of their own due to groups of customers rearranging the pub table layout. This sometimes means that altgough you give your table number when ordering food the table is not where it should be. Customers sometimes use the phone app to order drinks when the bar is extremely busy so they get quicker drinks service -what if everyone did that ? Worst problem however is allowing customers to sit in a way that blocks the fire exits especially on hot days when the fire exits are opened. (Smokers often open the fire door leading to the alley at the side of the pub anyway, despite the fact that it should be alarmed and has a sign stating that it should only be opened in an emergency). Recently we (and staff going outside to collect glasses etc) had to walk round customers sat in front of the main door to the car park entrance. I would not bring any friends or relatives to this pub on safety issues alone which is a shame.

The pub is a lot quieter than it used to be and there is growing local comperition. Reviewing/ enforcing its child policy and fire regs may prevent it becomming even quieter.

Hi There,

Thank you for your constructive feedback regarding the bar service and the tables and chairs, The App is a company idea, something which we do hope that customers will prefer to use, due to quicker service, cutting bar queue times and if more people used the app we could put another member of staff on thus not effecting the bar service times.

In regards to the children, the manager working that night had mentioned to the table the caution of hot plates coming out of the kitchen but unfortunately children are just that, Children. The Licensing laws changed in 2003 in regards to children being allowed in bar area, as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult. The company license doesn't allow children on the premises after 10pm on the busier evenings unless eating and then we allow 10:30pm but it is again down to the on duty manager.

Again thank you for you concern and feedback,

If you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact us, this information can be found on our website.

Kind Regards

Management
