Our family of four went for spring break, for the one day Winter Seafood Safari. Our guide Mike was the hardest working boat captain I have ever seen in my life. He was constantly checking our lines, adjusting for depth, ensuring our comfort and providing knowledge of the ocean and surrounding islands. Although we weren't able to get many fish to the boat, we had great success with our prawn traps. Mike invited us back the next morning free of charge to go for crab, as the traps he had set before our fishing day didn't yield as much as he had hoped. We met the following morning and were very fortunate with a cooler full of meat. I highly recommend Mike as a boat captain and Long Beach Charters. We all had a great time, and look forward to our next trips.
Tried out the Seafood Safari to experience a different type of fishing. The day was overcast, the water choppy, but our guide Kyle kept positive and worked very hard to find the salmon! We also had an extra companion, Dexter the beagle, who provided a soothing distraction when the sea was crazy. Caught 3 beautiful Chinook and had 2 others that got away. Also caught a keeper rockfish and multiple little throw-back rockfish. 2 eagles spied one of our catch & release rockfish, giving us quite a dramatic close up eagle encounter as we watched the eagle grab the fish! In the afternoon, we moved into the much calmer sound. Kyle pulled up 4 prawn traps filled with tasty prawns. Finally, near the docks, Kyle pulled up crab traps, yielding 4 keeper Dungeness crabs! Back at the dock, Kyle cleaned and filleted all the catch. Beware the off season! There are NO commercial fish processors open, so you need to bag and freeze and pack your own fish. Check your airlines’ rules! We ate our crab in Ucluelet , but successfully brought all our fish & prawns home. This was a very fun twist to the usual deep fishing adventure!
We (my wife and I) did a six hours salmon fishing trip with Kyle from Long Beach Charters. We hadn't had the lines out ten minutes before Marge caught a twelve pound Chinook. In those six hours of fishing we landed five Chinook from 12-17 pounds, two Cohos in the 12 pound range, which we released, and a number of fish that hit but got off. Kyle is an excellent guide and when you book Long Beach Charters you might want to ask for him to be your guide. You will be glad you did.
We can't thank Kyle enough for the experience of our life. We caught four beautiful Chinook Salmon and one 60 lb. Halibut and one 40 lb.Halibut on our 6 hour fishing charter. Lyle knows how to fish and where the fish are. Very experienced and knowledgeable charter captain. He took us for salmon first and then Halibut. He kept changing this up and there was non-stop excitement. Not only is he personable, he assisted me when I cracked my ankle bone on the fishing trip. There were 18' ocean swells and my husband fell backwards in the boat. He was wearing metal leg braces and landed on my foot. Could not walk on my foot so Kyle helped me from the boat and even drove me to our camper, he arranged for our fish to be packaged and shipped for us, a truly great person, thank you again Kyle.
The guide was on time at 6:00 am and ready to hook up some fish. Had a good opportunity to talk to Kyle. He was very knowledgable about the fishing grounds as he grew up fishing them. We limited out on Springs and Halibut in 6 hours. It was an awesome day. I definitely would fish with Kyle again.
My husband booked and paid a 50% deposit for a full day fishing charter back in March for our July 2016 trip to Ucluelet. We stopped into the Long Beach Charters office the day before to pay the balance and inquire about the charter start time. He was told to be at the marina at 6AM the next day. He got to the marina at 5:50 AM and waited until 7:00 AM and Kyle, the fishing guide, never showed up! We tried to call both the office phone and after hours phone at 6:40 AM and got their voice mail. We finally called back at 7:00 AM and talked to Miles, telling him the guide never showed and we wanted a full refund. He called us back after checking with the guide, who said his alarm didn't go off, and offered his apologies and promptly refunded our money. Nonetheless, it was very disappointing that on our last day in Ucluelet we had a full day void and the whole reason we came here was for my husband to fish which he never got to do!
