I am going to give this place an honest review as a whole!
We were lucky enough to actually win this holiday to Mexico in this hotel through Saturday night takeaway and TUI which is amazing!
Before arriving I was quite worried by looking at some of these reviews about the hotel so I wasn’t expecting anything good if I am honest.
When we arrived we were quite lucky with the check in process it wasn’t long winded with loads of ques and the bell boy took our luggage to our rooms which we was in great location for. The only thing is there is no lifts and we was on the third floor so trying to drag your luggage up 3 flights of stairs is a bit annoying but it’s not the end of the world.
The rooms are dated which I expected from pictures but I will say they are always clean and they are an amazing size you got so much room in there, you have a mini bar stocked up every day which is handy and no issues with our room what so ever. At a night time it can get bit noisy from where was located but it didn’t bother us too much.
There was no fight for sunbeds which was great, you could always guarantee to get one, and there is different pools if you want more of a quieter pool with adults or if you want loud and fun with the kids you can go to that pool. The beach was lovely and safe to go too, the buggy’s take you right there but we did walk back one day and it only took 10 minutes.
I would honestly say food wise I was really happy with, there was always plenty of options and we also managed to get three a la carte restaurant bookings aswell which we done 10 days before we arrive make sure you do this before you arrive on the app otherwise you won’t get in! It was also nice because you can use the a la carte restaurants in the other hotels which is nice because they are a little bit more modern than Coba. The main buffet dining experience can be a bit chaotic at times but most buffets are, it gets very HOT in this buffet and sometimes can be quite uncomfortable, a couple of times I had to leave the table earlier. I think maybe introducing a system would help where guests can book particular time slots so it doesn’t get all busy at certain times, because we see people queuing all outside a few times waiting to go in.
I was also surprised with the all inclusive drinks, such as branded vodka was included on the all inclusive like Smirnoff and absolute which does make a good difference. I love an aperol spritz and they make them with proper branded drinks aswell, my only issue is they seem to have a problem handing out straws and some drinks need a straw in my opinion, you ask for a straw and it seems like they take offence or don’t like giving them out, I tried asking about this but didn’t get anywhere. So if you like straws for your drinks bring your own !
I really enjoyed going to the Hacienda on the Saturday evening where they do Mexican entertainment and you can take a walk around the little shops and have drinks there aswell so I recommend doing that on a Saturday evening.
I also really liked being able to go round and use facilities in the other hotels and just to see what they’re like, the Tulum and Akumal ones are a lot more modern than Coba.
The evening entertainment is good, always something for everyone to take part in or watch.
Would I stay here again? Probably not. Not for no bad reasons, I just feel I’ve done this hotel, there isn’t a wow factor to it that makes me think I need to book for next year, I was lucky to get this for free and I did enjoy it more than I expected, I think if I ever was to come back I would probably look more at staying in Tulum hotel or Akumal.
