Bahia Principe Coba was fabulous!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 weeks ago
The resort is big and beautiful ! Lots of fun thanks to the friendly and energetic entertainment crew at the activity pool .. Coba buffet is amazing so many choices and lots of made to order stations.. easy to book an la cartes on APP and before arrival which is a blessing! everything was more than we hoped for! Only down side was the beach ( rocky and not the breathtaking blue that you find in Cancun or Cuba! Still highly recommend this resort !

we have been to this resort twice. once for our wedding, and once as a family.
wedding wise its ok, i never got to see anything ahead of time so i was talking in blind,
we went back with family a few years later, our kids loved it. pool was great, food was ok, gets boring after a few days, drinks were good. staff was good. the rooms were dated. cant flush toilet paper down the toilet, and dont go number 2 in your room, i have two boys and they plugged the toilet at least twice a day!. i wish rooms were cleaned a bit quicker(but i know they have lots to do). we would come back around 1 to nap and the rooms still not cleaned. fridge was always stocked.

If you are planning to visit the Mexico Bahia resorts, better choose Tulum or Akumal,
Because Coba significantly lowed food, services and intertainments quality since Covid,
and especially as Coba guests NO longer have access to other resorts in the Mexican complex.

Room tip: Choose Tulum or Akumal over Coba

Dear Nkalitina,

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your experience at our resort. We’re sorry to hear that you found the quality of food, service, and entertainment at Grand Coba to be lacking compared to Grand Tulum or Luxury Akumal.

Your comments are invaluable as we continually strive to improve our offerings. We understand the importance of providing a high-quality experience for all our guests, and your insights will help us in this regard.

I am going to give this place an honest review as a whole!

We were lucky enough to actually win this holiday to Mexico in this hotel through Saturday night takeaway and TUI which is amazing!

Before arriving I was quite worried by looking at some of these reviews about the hotel so I wasn’t expecting anything good if I am honest.
When we arrived we were quite lucky with the check in process it wasn’t long winded with loads of ques and the bell boy took our luggage to our rooms which we was in great location for. The only thing is there is no lifts and we was on the third floor so trying to drag your luggage up 3 flights of stairs is a bit annoying but it’s not the end of the world.

The rooms are dated which I expected from pictures but I will say they are always clean and they are an amazing size you got so much room in there, you have a mini bar stocked up every day which is handy and no issues with our room what so ever. At a night time it can get bit noisy from where was located but it didn’t bother us too much.

There was no fight for sunbeds which was great, you could always guarantee to get one, and there is different pools if you want more of a quieter pool with adults or if you want loud and fun with the kids you can go to that pool. The beach was lovely and safe to go too, the buggy’s take you right there but we did walk back one day and it only took 10 minutes.

I would honestly say food wise I was really happy with, there was always plenty of options and we also managed to get three a la carte restaurant bookings aswell which we done 10 days before we arrive make sure you do this before you arrive on the app otherwise you won’t get in! It was also nice because you can use the a la carte restaurants in the other hotels which is nice because they are a little bit more modern than Coba. The main buffet dining experience can be a bit chaotic at times but most buffets are, it gets very HOT in this buffet and sometimes can be quite uncomfortable, a couple of times I had to leave the table earlier. I think maybe introducing a system would help where guests can book particular time slots so it doesn’t get all busy at certain times, because we see people queuing all outside a few times waiting to go in.

I was also surprised with the all inclusive drinks, such as branded vodka was included on the all inclusive like Smirnoff and absolute which does make a good difference. I love an aperol spritz and they make them with proper branded drinks aswell, my only issue is they seem to have a problem handing out straws and some drinks need a straw in my opinion, you ask for a straw and it seems like they take offence or don’t like giving them out, I tried asking about this but didn’t get anywhere. So if you like straws for your drinks bring your own !

I really enjoyed going to the Hacienda on the Saturday evening where they do Mexican entertainment and you can take a walk around the little shops and have drinks there aswell so I recommend doing that on a Saturday evening.

I also really liked being able to go round and use facilities in the other hotels and just to see what they’re like, the Tulum and Akumal ones are a lot more modern than Coba.

The evening entertainment is good, always something for everyone to take part in or watch.

Would I stay here again? Probably not. Not for no bad reasons, I just feel I’ve done this hotel, there isn’t a wow factor to it that makes me think I need to book for next year, I was lucky to get this for free and I did enjoy it more than I expected, I think if I ever was to come back I would probably look more at staying in Tulum hotel or Akumal.

Room tip: Bring your own straws

Dear Ryan,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful and detailed review of Bahía Príncipe Grand Coba. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the check-in process, the spacious and clean rooms, and the variety of pools and dining options. It’s also great to know that the all-inclusive drinks and the experience at the Hacienda Doña Isabel, were highlights of your stay.

We appreciate your constructive feedback regarding the lack of elevators, the busy buffet, and the availability of straws. Your suggestions are valuable and will be considered for future improvements.

We understand your preference for a different atmosphere and are happy to hear you’re open to exploring our sister hotels like Grand Tulum or Luxury Akumal for a more modern experience. We hope you had a memorable holiday and appreciate your honest feedback—it helps us enhance our guests’ experiences.

If you ever choose to visit us or any of our properties again, we would be delighted to welcome you back!

Warm regards,

We stayed at a very good rate and as a part of the Privilege Club since our friends are time share owners. I highly recommend the Privilege Club as it gives you access to all 4 resorts, all restaurants and bars and premium spirits like Johnny Walker Black Label and Don Julio Reposado.

The resort itself is very family oriented so great for families. I enjoyed the atmosphere but if you are looking for very quiet atmosphere, then stay at Sian Kian. As a privilege member, you can check in/check out at privilege lounge which is also a huge bonus.

I thought the buffet food was OK but plentiful. The sit down restaurants have better food. Service throughout the resort is friendly but you can't expect 5 star/North American standards but they will try to accommodate you if they can and understand you.

The pools are clean. When you go to these resorts, you have to expect that as an all inclusive, you cannot get everything you want complementary but what is included is great value for the money. The beaches at Akumal and Tulum are clean and you feel very safe inside the resort. Animals are everywhere in a good way.

I would recommend this as a great vacation destination
