The only problem with Ashlea House is that a stay here may spoil you for all other B & B experiences!
The house, built between 1886 to 1890, is remarkably beautiful and very well maintained. The mechanics have all been updated, with wonderful washrooms, and the rooms are well lit with individually controlled air conditioning. The house itself retains its historic presence. There are beautiful common areas to enjoy, the living room, parlor, a gazebo and the widow’s watch. The hosts always have fresh baked cookies, tea, coffee and fruit available in the very well-appointed dining room.
The beauty of the house with its grand staircase and spacious, comfortable, well-furnished rooms is remarkable. However it is the hosts, Kim and Ed who made this a most memorable stay. When we arrived, they welcomed us warmly, gave us a tour of the house, shared information about the house and Lunenburg, directions to walk into town, where to eat, what was on, etc.
Kim and Ed gather all guests at 8:30 to enjoy a delicious 3-course breakfast in the dining room so guests have an opportunity to meet each other. They very graciously accommodated dietary restrictions.
Kim and Ed are clearly passionate and very professional hosts. We really appreciated their attention to detail, from the cozy bathrobes, wonderful linens and other small touches. We’d love to return some day!
