Just 20 miles from the Vermont border is an Inn that has the feeling of the French countryside. The feel of the Inn is very french, but everyone speaks English. The service is outstanding and staff could not be more accommodating , especially Marc at the front desk. For my husband and I the charm was the lakeside setting, the well tended gardens , the boats and the bikes and the heated pool. The communal area both inside and out are charming.

We took a canoe to the town of North Hatley from the inn and you could tie up the boat and have a snack ,about 40 minutes each way. Another day we biked the bike path out of North Hatley past beautiful waterfalls ( bring a picnic)- from the tourist center go right then right on Vaughn st. The bikes at the inn were good so no need to bring your own. Just sitting on the chairs on the dock with beautiful vistas will make you unwind quickly. The food, as others have commented is good but for us several days of large meals is a bit much. While not advertised, you can opt for days with meals and some without.

We stayed in the standard room, which are like nice hotel rooms without the lake view, yet all you have to do is go out of the inn and a lakeside seating is there, so we didn't miss a room view. While not much to do in the area you will enjoy the time at the inn. Even though it was full we did not feel crowded, people were quiet and courteous . There were very few children here, but teens would be happy, and it is not necessarily a family place.

This place has gotten many accolades from many publications and while expensive we thought it was a good value given the level of 5 star service and the lakeside property( when compared to Migis Lodge and Rock Gardens Inn in ME). We have already recommended it to our friends and we will be back.

One word of caution, Canadian room taxes are high, so figure that into the cost of your room.

Room Tip: There are several cottages, some called suites, throughout the property. Some are modern and others...

My husband and I stayed the weekend at Manoir Hovey and enjoyed excellent service from everyone who works at the inn. We are impressed by the attention to detail, such as everyone referring to us by name (including staff we had not met or introduced ourselves to before). The food was delicious and we enjoyed unhurried breakfasts with the most amazing coffee we have ever tasted and elegant dining in the evenings. We made good use of the kayaks, canoe and swam in the beautiful lake and swimming pool. We also went on a nearby 10 km hike on Mt Orford, which we loved. We saw a few different rooms ranging from Standard to a suite and found that you do get what you pay for. Some of the rooms are newly rennovated while others retain their traditional charm. In every case, the rooms were very comfortable, beautifully decorated and the beds were very comfortable.

We wanted a tour of the Eastern Townships as we know them from the Louise Penny 'Gamache' books. We booked a package of two nights at Ripplecove Inn and two at Manoir Hovey to bicycle between the two with car and luggage delivered. The overall experience was grand, but we got the impression that few people did the bike package as there was often hesitancy about procedures. We did it and glad we did. We learned that most who booked the package drove between the hotels and we were “most assuredly the oldest couple to have biked” (70s). The reception was perfect, the room outstanding and the meals truly exceptional. We did not use much of the hotel facilities, but what we saw was first class. We also enjoyed eating our bicycle lunches provided in the nice pack while sitting at the gazebo in North Hatley. By the way, the concierge gave us very good instructions for a Townships drive indicating his choice for ‘Three Pines.’ Ours was North Hatley itself.

Room Tip: We had room 2 on the end of the building. Quiet, ground floor with a semi-private veranda.

Manoir Hovey is a very special unique inn in North Hatley Quebec. It was once a summer home of a wealthy family located on a beautiful lake and although expanded into an inn, still retains an intimate very private atmosphere. The grounds are georgeous with wonderful gardens, old fashioned wooden chaises and chairs, a beautiful pool, and dock with kayaks, canoes, etc. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable; ours had a patio with a table and two chairs overlooking the gardens and the lake; a great place for a glass of wine before dining. The dining room also overlooks the gardens and the food is served elegantly and is superb. You will have to think very hard to come up with a dining experience you enjoyed more (if it is possible). And this is not to mention the breakfasts - which are also fantastic. We loved our stay!

My wife and I were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary and as regular as clock work we return to Hovey Manoir every year in June. On this occasion we upgraded to the Deluxe category and were placed in a Unit that had 4 separate accommodations. We stayed in Unit 34. Our room was modern, spacious, very clean and beautifully appointed. We were staying on the main floor and had a beautiful view of Lake Massawippi. The only flaw with our room was the noise factor as you could hear person(s) walking in the room above us and you could hear them speaking etc. The the next day I spoke to the front desk and they were willing to move us to another location but we decided to stay in our assigned room as we had unpacked and settled in. Once again the food experience(both breakfast & Dinner) was outstanding and is always one of the features we look forward to during our visits to the Manoir. During this stay we explored the town of Sherbrooke and really enjoyed this community. We had an amazing lunch at a Crepe Restaurant. So, once again, we enjoyed our stay at Hovey Manoir and look forward to returning next year!

Room Tip: Avoid Room 34 on the Ground level!
