Ranked #10 of 136 Restaurants in Magog

Description: Garanteed to "WOW" your taste buds! One might wonder about the unusual name chosen for the restaurant. The owners have decided to highlight the year in which was held, the first municipal council of the town of Magog, 1855. As for the word, « TAVERNE », it describes perfectly, the casual atmosphere that the owners wish to create. It will be a warm place to gather, accessible to all and without pretentions. The chef Éric Garand, promises : « Every item on the menu is prepared in house while using carefully selected high quality local products. The menu will include some of my classics already praised by our clients! » The experienced sommelier, Jinny Dufour, will ensure that the wine selection is meticulously chosen to match the daily menu.

Prices were high for the quality of what was served; small piece of deep fried fish served to me, greasy fries and coleslaw for $23; twice we were asked if we were finished, maybe the attendants were lacking experience, which didn<t make us feel comfortable, the view was nice though on the gallery;

Thank your for your comments. Every item on the menu is prepared in house while using carefully selected high quality local products. Portions are plenty for most folks. Its now time to define expensive when choosing a restaurant. We take note for the service lapse and we are sorry this was the case at the time of your visit.

We went with the three-course menu on the patio overlooking the water. It was very good, and reasonably priced.

We were two couples who waltzed in on Saturday night and lucked in to a table on the terrace. The menu is small, which I like, but everything that passed by us looked and smelled lovely. Three had the lamb shank (already mentioned by several reviewers) and loved it, but I had the curried shrimp and was glad I did. So many curries overwhelm seafood, but not this one! Flavourful but with a light touch. We had to try the mi-cuit chocolate dessert - also a winner and very rich so the small portion was perfect. Very happy with service and ambience. Favourite restaurant out of three we tried. Just go!

A few antique lights and pieces of furniture add to the atmosphere of this pub. We stopped for lunch and were surprised a couple of ways. We enters and planned to order based on the menu written on the board outside the door. To our surprise, what was written on the board was not what was offers inside. We ordered a potage which was listed as carrot soup but ended up being asparagus no problem, it was creamy and delicious. I ordered the confit canard Cesar salad as my main which was very good fresh crispy lettuce and nicely warmed duck.
My husband ordered salmon tartar but to his surprise he received a filet of salmon with hot veggies. The filet was perfectly cooked but not his order. He kept the plate and was happy he did. The dish was plated beautifully and tasted very good.
This is an excellent pub choice even with the little menu confusion it's a good choice.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience. Both our lunch menu and evening dinner menu are outside and inside. It is up to our staff to explain and help you choose. We do apologize for the confusion and are glad you enjoyed your experience regardless. We hope to welcome you again soon.
