We only booked one night on Koh Mook...if we knew how much we would love the resort and the island, we would have booked at least 3 nights!

The Service
The service was excellent, we felt like royalty, even receiving turn-down service in the evening at which time they scan your room for mosquitoes to ensure you have a bite free night. I received responses in a timely manner when emailing prior to our trip, and they helped arrange a transfer from Trang airport. They had a driver meet us at the entrance of Trang airport, and then we took a long boat to Koh Mook, and then a taxi-bike to the resort...everything went smoothly and saved me a lot of stress, as we didn't know if our flight would be on time. It turned out to be a slightly more affordable option as well, costing 800 baht/person. We also arranged a transfer to Koh Ngai through the resort (600 baht/person), which was super handy because we were able to choose the departure time and got to stay on the island several hours longer than if we had taken the daily ferry.

The Resort
We chose the least expensive room, and recommend it highly if you don't have the budget to splurge on a bungalow. See photos attached. We never saw an insect in our room. And it was super clean and had a spa-like bathroom. The AC worked excellent (AC is a must even in cool season). We didn't try the restaurant as we were only on the island for one night, but enjoyed the breakfast provided. We also utilized the complementary bikes to explore, and it takes less than 15min to bike to the other end of the island.

The Location
We loved the location as it is quiet, away from the busy resorts on the other end of the island. It is also the closest resort to Hilltop Restaurant, which is probably the most reasonably priced on the island, and possibly our favourite restaurant of our entire 3 week Thailand trip (see my separate review). The resort is also walking distance of the only bar on the island. We felt safe walking around after dark...you will need a strong flashlight though. The two main beaches are a short bike ride away, but if you just need a quick dip, the infinity pool at the resort is lovely.

We were picked up from Charlie's Beach where the speedboat arrived and taken to the resort by staff. The welcome at the desk was impressive. My wife mentioned to Kartoon, the manager, that it was my birthday and we were upgraded to a beachfront location. This looked as though it was newly built and all was clean, attractive and comfortable. A porch looked over the beach area. The breakfast was very good with proper bacon - rare in SE Asia. The pool is excellent with an infinity aspect. You can access Charlie's Beach for swimming or stupendous sunsets via resort tuk tuk, free bicycles, or you can walk - 15 mins approx. Kartoon will arrange for a long tail boat to take you to Emerald Cave or snorkling etc. The snorkling was fabulous. While here I suggest you try the Hilltop (family run) Restaurant, an easy enough walk, particularly on the downhill return. We found the staff at The Great Sun to be friendly and helpful, in fact on the night of my birthday they all arrived with a cake and candles and sang 'Happy Birthday' to me. This hadn't been arranged by my family, they had done it themselves. Wonderful.

We spent 4 nights in The Sun Great Resort and our stay couldn't have been better! At first you can feel a bit awkward since the resort's surrounding is not the prettiest. But as soon as you enter in the bungalow your first opinion about the resort will go away! First of all, staff are very friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome straight away! The bungalows are very clean and spacious and bed is comfy! Every night someone will come to the room to set up the mosquito net, which is a very nice touch :) The swimming pool is clean and a good place to chill. The beaches proper for swim are a bit far from the resort. Breakfasts is really nice and the food in the restaurant is good in general. Another huge plus for the resort is the fact that there are complimentary bikes to cycle around the island and also a complimentary taxi whenever you buy the boat tickets with them! Overall our stay was very good and I would totally stay here again!!!

When you arrive to the resort you get a really warm welcome from the staff. We only stayed one night on our way south, but we could easily have stayed a couple of nights more if we have had the time. The beach is tidal, but you can borrow bikes for free or take a motorcycle taxi to go to other beaches or the fishing village. A very nice and clean resort with total calm!
