I was in Owen Sound last week and tried to go to the Downtown Bookstore, however it has closed down and is no longer in business. Too bad, it sounded like a neat place.

If books are your interest, new books of almost any type, then you must visit The Downtown Bookstore when you come to Owen Sound. Having taught English for 30 years in a local high school, I can tell you that this is a superb place to browse everything from brilliant literature from many lands to camp vampire teenage fiction from many authors. The patrons are a fine mix of innocent first timers to seasoned literary veterans. You can sit by the fire in winter and enjoy any of several coffees or teas as you leaf through a biography of Conrad or any of several selections from a brilliant children's section. If fires are not your cup of tea, then you can come in the summer and sit in one of several comfortable chairs no where close to the fireplace and read your paper, drink your drink, wonder your wonder, or engage who-so-ever is about in conversation. The staff, of which I am on occasion one, include Hazel and Andre (the widely read and endearing owners who will not forgive me for having written that), Roisin and / or Daniel, the endearingly widely read owners' endearling and widely read children. Me, I'm neither endearing nor an owner, but am somewhat widely read and can hardly imagine a bookstore in which I'd work to improve upon my widely-read-ness. Visit us once or visit us often, you cannot miss the mark at The Downtown Bookstore in Owen Sound.
When we were in Owen Sound we went to the most amazing bookstore / cafe. The Downtown Bookstore (on the main downtown street) had a great selection of books and a very specialized selection of folk, jazz and blues CDs. They also have a little café there and serve outstanding coffee. Definitely one of my favorite places in Owen Sound!
