We stopped by Crazy Weed after a full day of sightseeing in Banff and were pleasantly surprised to be seated on a busy Friday night. When we walked in we immediately noticed the casual, yet upscale vibe of the place. This is clearly a place where locals and visitors enjoy a meal. You can't miss the gorgeous bar or the semi-open kitchen, exuding amazing aromas, that were both in view. It was busy! Hosts, servers, bar tenders were all moving quickly but efficiently. Rather than feel chaotic, it seemed like all staff were focused on providing great service for their customers. Our waiter through the evening proved this to be true.
If you are a lover of fine wines, this is the place for you! While a bit on the pricey end, the wine list is diverse and extensive. While you can buy a few wines by the glass, it would be great if there were a few more reasonably priced bottles for purchase. Beer and cocktails were also available. Like the wine, the menu was varied with options that included everything from salads, small plates and full meals. Many reflected an Asian influence. We enjoyed the Salt and Pepper Calamari, accompanied by a flavorful cilantro lime sauce. We followed this with Thai Chicken Salad. Both were very good, but not remarkable. BUT the Warm Date Cake with Bourbon Butter Sauce and Orange Cardamom Ice Cream was truly exceptional! Crazy Weed is a mixed review for me. Our food was mostly just better than average with the exception of that cake). Food and drinks are the pricier end of things, especially the wine. I'm not sure the meal was worth the cost. The staff and atmosphere were great. Would I return? Maybe.
