The appetizers started out quite well, with an above average cream or mushroom soup and confit rolls (especially liked the anise flavour in the sauce).
The main courses were good, but not exceptional. I had the fish--really enjoyed the smoke flavour and crispy shell on the risotto, but the fish was nothing special (no interesting flavour, just fish), and the veggies just veggies. The smoked porkchop dish was also average (husband pointed out we could have just picked one up from Valbella's ourselves).
Dessert--my lemon/marshmallow/pastry dessert--I found the lemon too salty and the pastry was pretty tough. It was hard to cut through with your fork, you ended up sawing it and destroying it. The sticky toffee pudding was a bit above average.
The service was good. Friendly, reasonably fast, they were able to seat us at the bar without a reservation at 730pm on a Saturday.
Overall, the food quality was somewhat disappointing for the price, although it was good enough that we might try it again sometime.
