Owner description: The Osoyoos Desert Centre is a 67 acre nature interpretive facility where visitors can learn about desert ecology, habitat restoration and conservation of endangered ecosystems in the South Okanagan. Guests are invited to explore Canada’s desert by taking a guided or self-guided tour along a 1.5 km elevated wooden boardwalk. In addition, the Centre features an interpretive facility with hands-on exhibits and a native plant demonstration garden. Visitors can also browse through our Gift Shop, enjoy a snack in the outdoor picnic area, or relax at one of the kiosks and take in the spectacular views.

We went to the Desert Centre but is isn't very good. There was a 1.5 km self-guided walk but it was rather monotonous. Nothing much new to see after the first 10 minutes. A bit of a waste of time, really.

I went with my three year old. No hat, no sunscreen, no water. Not a brilliant plan. However, there were hats to borrow and water available, by donation. It was HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!- like a desert. We walked along the boardwalk to the first shade station and got a real sense of desert. Back at the small visitor centre, my granddaughter spent a lot of time intereacting with the various displays. It's hard to have displays that are interesting to all generations and I think they did that well. Looking forward to going back with her again.

I recommend the guided tour. Yes, you can walk it on your own but the information garnered from those tour guides is well worth waiting for a scheduled guided tour. And besides, it's free. Lots of parking. Easy access. It is entirely on a boardwalk so it is completely accessible to the mobility challenged. Be warned though, it is a desert and in the summer it is HOT! BRING WATER! The tour will tell you all about the ecological systems here in the desert. The flora and fauna are very unique here. Just a few short miles north of the Town of Osoyoos. Pavement right to the parking lot. There are signs along Highway 97 but you have to watch for them as they are not overly large and only one each way.

We received a very warm welcome by the staff, and while we were disappointed that no more tours were being offered (early October) we still thought it was excellent. Who knew there was so much to learn about osoyoos climate, wildlife, flora, etc.
It was a great walk along the wooden walkway and not busy. It was very enjoyable at the end of the season - in fact not sure I would have liked it at all in 35C+ temps.
Don't forget to take water and a hat.

Pay to go on the trail and walk around the grounds. Do use caution though as there is Rattle snakes. Breath taking surrounding to take in
