Do you know how popular this restaurant is? You can only call between certain hours to make reservations. Our friends have tried several times and did not get a table for 7 - the time slot they got was 9pm. We were lucky that we called two weeks ahead and was able to get a table for 2 on a Wednesday at 6pm.
We were there 10 mins early and the restaurant was already 85% occupied. The manager was nice and so as the staff. I didn't find them rude as some people said in other forum. They were doing their job quite great. The other manager Irene was also fantastic in helping to follow up the torch sushi that never arrived. This was one of the reasons that I did not give them 4 stars. We ordered the blow-torched sushi and cold-pressed sushi the first round. Never arrived. After Irene followed up, some came after 10 or 15 mins (finally after 35 mins - luckily they were very good). We ordered more and waited for another 30 mins (as you could check from the order history) - so we had to ask Irene to f/u again. At this point, the cold pressed sushi still has not come. The second order of blow-torched sushi came but short by 2 pieces. We gave up. I hate chasing food like that. We would like to have more of them but by then we didn't want to hold back order other food. Wonder if that's their strategy.
The sashimi was fresh - they have the usual stuff plus the white tuna (not the milky fish). Actually they don't have milky fish at all. I like that their sushi and maki is on the smaller side - the rice was soft. Their speciality roll came in 3 small pieces verus 6 or 8. That's great as you can try more other stuff. We ordered lamb skewers, lamb shoulder, lobster bisque, spring egg that most other AYCE do not have. And they were good. We ordered 2 chicken wings and were given one chicken drum stick. Tempura was below average - greasy and soft. The garlic shrimp came in like a little mountain - way more than we ordered. May be others ordered them and was not delivered in time so they gave us all of them. They were cold. Same thing happened to the short ribs but we returned them and insisted we just ordered 3 pieces and not 9!!! The ramen in soup is good though.
Desserts: a lot of choices and mango slush is the most popular one.
Overall, we like this place and their sushi and sashimi. The service was good. Next time we would know what to order an what NOT to. Yes, we could return if we can made the reservation.
