We stayed at the Old Farrowings for two days in the middle of a 10-day UK vacation. We had no car - we took the train to Buxton and got taxi rides to and from the cottage. It really is out there in the country and the setting was even better than we imagined. Both days we drank wine on our private patio while looking at the gorgeous countryside and listening to/watching the cows and sheep. Both days we took a 40 minute walk to nearby Hartington for lunch and ice cream. We played tennis on the Biggin Grange court, went to quiz night at the Waterloo Inn and just enjoyed the total peace and freedom of being there. We were so sad to leave and very much hope to go back one day!
Jane was not there at all during our visit but I texted her a couple of questions and she always replied. We had brief chats with two others who worked there but other than that we had no need of contact as everything was pre-explained or waiting for us when we arrived. The brownies Jane left us were delicious and the cottage was so wonderful in every way!
Great cottage. Fuuy equiped for our use. Would definitely visit again.location perfect for walking. Thank you
Had a 2 night stay for my partners birthday & we both loved it..
Lovely location.. cottage has a lot of character & very cosy.
Plenty to see locally (Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock Bath) would totally recommend!
Had a brilliant two night stay at the Old Farrowings. The brownies and flowers on the table were a lovely touch. Jane has done a fantastic job of making the place homely, having set up a fire ready for our arrival (it was snowing outside so it was definitely needed). The Old Farrowings is in a lovely setting at Biggin Grange, and we had a lovely walk from the cottage down into Dovedale.
I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for a relaxing escape...
Thank you for a lovely time at the Old Farrowings. Directions were very good and we received a friendly welcome even though we came up the wrong drive! (also thank you very much for the brownies - they were delicious)
The cottage itself is very well laid out and has everything you could need. Its not big but that's a good thing as its very cosy and has plenty of room for two, particularly as the bedroom is about as big as the rest of the house put together. We both loved it.
Part of the reason for wanting to stay here is that there are lots walks from the front door, the weather wasn't great but we walked a loop over to Alstonefield and stopped in the pub there for a pint, we thought it looked pretty good so ended up going there for dinner, which was excellent!
You have to search really hard before you can find any ways to fault this cottage, we had a lovely couple of days, I'd recommend it to anyone and when we're next in the area we'll definitely try to stay there again.
