Our large family party was wowed by the setting, facilities and character of this beautiful house and gardens, including swimming pool. There were lots of interesting and charming villages around but, for the most part, we were happy to relax and enjoy each other's company in fabulous surroundings at Barrusclet. Some of our gang went exploring on the bikes provided by owners Gill and Mark and each morning we picked up mouth-watering croissants and French bread from the boulangerie in nearby Gondrin. Much of our time was spent lounging around and dipping into the pool - with a couple of moonlight dips adding to the magic. We went en masse to a nearby tennis court in Lauraet, to which the owners have the key, and used rackets and balls supplied at Barrusclet for a fun knock-about. We also visited the stunning medieval walled village of Laressingle. But for the most part.....Barrusclet itself was more than enough. Our memories of family meals on the large tables in front of the house, singing and playing games and instruments (guitars provided), accompanied by copious quantities of reasonably priced local wine, will live with us for ever. We WILL be back!
This was a beautiful house in a lovely rural location in France. We stayed for a fortnight and hardly left the property, with an excellent pool and a great outdoor space we spent most of the day enjoying the sunshine, swimming, watching the wildlife and strolling around the countryside. 46 species of birds were spotted, numerous butterflies, deer and squirrels but alas no wild boar. Would recommend Gondrin for the bakery and butcher (excellent choice for the barbeque).
Spent idyllic week at Barrusclet. Thank you, Mark and Gill for making us so welcome and ensuring our holiday was nothing short of perfect! We loved some of the surrounding villages, particularly Montréal, and enjoyed exploring the region by bike. We will certainly return another time, perhaps when it is warm enough to use the pool as it looked very inviting!
This was our second time staying in this part of france but the first time at Burrsuclet.
We loved it.
Lovely owner, lovely property and lovely area.
We went with 3 generations of family and we all enjoyed it- the night sky was extremely dark (perfect for father in law who bought his telescope), the pool was perfect for the little ones (and enclosed), and the house is large enough to find a quiet spot if you needed to.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely. The games room is perfect- lots of things to do and we loved having the bikes available (although we bought our own too), there is a really good cycle track down the local railway track which also has a cafe on it in the old train station.
The only area that wasn't perfect was the kitchen that needs a bigger cooker and more cupboards. This shouldn't put you off as its perfectly acceptable, its just not as nice as the "wow" bedrooms and bathrooms. In any case we cooked outside most of the time! Nice big fridges though- perfect for 10!
Top tips- lots of local market towns with "plat du jour". The medieival seige museum, and associated town are interesting and worth a trip
Mostly we stayed in the swimming pool :)
