I've seen these 古城 "Ancient Towns" all over China，and this one is definitely *not* one of the best. For example, it doesn't hold a candle to Jianshui, only an hour or two away.
What Shiping is famous for is its tofu, and you need to at least try some of that while you are here. The most popular way to have it is roasted over coals 考豆腐, though it is also delicious served in a simple soup with vegetables, for example 豌豆尖豆腐汤。
You can walk through the main gate, glance around a bit and in 10 or 15 minutes, you will be done. No buildings of historical interest to go inside or temples to visit. They are completely unprepared for tourists at the present time.
