Located in beautiful northern Bali, this heavenly little seaside resort is the perfect location for a relaxing vacation. Tastefully furnished and decorated, the resort is spotless, the rooms very comfortable, the surroundings magnificent, and the food is absolutely scrumptious. The owners, Nicole and Jochen, are thoughtful and gracious, their staff professional, friendly and efficient. I soon had the feeling that I was not an anonymous hotel guest surrounded by strangers, but rather visiting my long lost family! I don't usually write glowing reviews, as it never takes me very long to find negative points, but I could not find anything to complain about at the Cili Emas Resort. It is a true gem, and I am looking forward to visiting again!

Cili Emas is a delightful resort on the quiet north coast of Bali at Tejakula. I found it friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and very clean. Everything there speaks of quality: the rooms, the furnishings, the great food, the gardens, the pool, spa – all have a warm, personal touch. It is the feeling of being part of a family that impressed me most – something one does not usually meet in hotels or resorts. The owners, Nicole and Jochan are very special people, as are the friendly Balinese staff.
Cili Emas sits right on the shoreline under huge trees, next to the fishermen's boats lined up on the black stone coast. Wake up to the sound of the waves and go out at sunrise with the fisherman, maybe see dolphins , then return for a big healthy breakfast (included in the very reasonable price). Delicious lunches and dinners are also served in the big thatched open-sided "bale", fronted by the sea.
The resort is well situated for outings to the mountain villages, Batur and Agung volcanoes, and Singaraja – but you may just want to stay put at Cili Emas and enjoy the pool, massages, food, and the great atmosphere!

Location:
Hidden underneath palmtrees at the black beaches of northern bali, behind the colorful boots of the fishermen, two hardly visibly doors in a stone wall lead to the little resort in the middle of a tropical paradise. No signpost to show you the way. It´s a place to live in harmony with nature and community, no place for the common Ibiza package holiday tourist.

Accomodation:
And thats whats our bungalow is like: up on entry you immediately realize that everything is well chosen and well cared for; the open top bathroom, the four poster bed, where we slept really well, fragrance of flowers everwhere.

Pool:
the pool ist big enough to really go for a swim, surrounded by banana trees and tropical plants and crowned by balinese work of art. this is the place to take a nap or to have a good read.

Food:
you take aperitif at a nice open bar, chat with the owners, Jochen and Nicole, and the other guests, while watching the chefs preparing your fresh meals, the bar ist also an open air kitchen. Here the tuna and the maimai jump from the fisherboot into the pot. All the ingredience, vegetables, herbs and so on are organic. Not only do you have a good conscience you also have a first class dinner topped with DIY-tipps for your own cooking at home. Sitting together at a long wooden table you can watch the sea and the stars and the fishermen pulling the boots of the shore.

Activities:
Here´s no host to get on your nerves, yet there´re the fishermen to take you with the boots of to the sea, a great experience, especially if you see the sun rising at the horizon. Of course you can snorkel, Jochen tells you the best places. And you can accompany Aylin to the market in the village to have a look at the diversity of fruit, fish and homemade textiles. The balinese people always smile, they never try to ask you for money or to sell you anything you dont want to have. You´re always welcome to the numerous hindu ceremonies. And in the evening you have to enjoy the famous balinese massage.

The concept:
Behind all this is a well thought concept: living in harmony with nature (starting with cooking, washing, constructing, sewage, low use of energy) pure sustainebility. Nicole and Jochen, they are no esoterian fundamentalists, if you want you can join Jochens "five tibetians" gymnastics or you can drink two liters of non sparkling water, at the same time you could also have sleep in and drink the good balinese beer bintang. Nicole offers workshops, in which she tells you about how it is possible to lead a better life in harmony with natur and in harmony with yourself.

As you can see, either you take some sustainebility back home or you simply enjoy life in the fantastic resort!!!

After the hustle and bustle of Ubud we drove ourselves out to this hidden gem on the coast, hidden it was too as we had to have the help of some local teenagers on their motor bike to lead us there, but what a find! This is the real Bali, serene, gracious and very welcoming. Our room was delightful, complete with open air bathroom, the stars at night were breathtaking. We really enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts, lunches and dinners prepared with all local ingredients and served by the happy friendly staff. The pineapple pancakes at breakfast are super! Walking along the rocky beach was somewhat challenging but well worthwhile and watching the fishermen and local children playing soccer was entertainment enough. This is the perfect place to totally unwind and relax, no shopping,tv or tourist attractions just the gentle flow of rural Bali life, its a very special place.

We have been to Bali many times and have always stayed in the Ubud area. This time we decided to venture north and discovered Cili Emas...can you say love at first sight!!
Cili Emas is truly unique for many reasons... It was originally built as an artist retreat by one of Bali's most famous painters to house bourgeoning artists...so its infused with all kinds of amazing jou jou...

It is set on a beautiful pebble beach on the north side of the island in Tejakula. A simple, but stunning fishing village. The people of the village are friendly and for the first time we had no one chasing us down the beach trying to sell us something. The fisherman are also amazingly silent in the wee hours of the morning..which is a welcome rarity.

Every morning, we took a dip in the cool still water before a wonderful breakfast of homemade bread, jam and delicious small plates in addition to omellettes and pancakes. Then we would spend the morning walking around the small village which is is literally in the trees behind the beach. I am a photographer and I took some amazing photos of the "real" Bali.

Our afternoons were spent relaxing in the bale, reading a book in between dips in the wonderful swimming pool. It was heaven. Lunch and Dinner are provided on site and are home cooked with a delicious mix of Balinese and European flavors. Meals are served at a communal table and we met some really interesting travelers from all over the world. By the time the sun set and we retired to our tastefully, simple and decidedly comfortable rooms complete with robes and homemade soap we were ready to be lulled into sleep by the hypnotic sound of the waves breaking against the shore. It couldn't have been more perfect....Did I mention that they work with the best masseuses on the island..seriously, I had a 2 hour thai massage that rivaled the best spas in all of thailand!!

I'm afraid to gush too much... it's so special we want to keep Cili Emas all to ourselves!!!
