“Fabulous family holiday cabin with only a couple of drawbacks.”

Good points first (and there are many!) incredibly spacious, comfy furniture, quiet location, incredibly well kitted out: wifi, freesat, DVD player, telephone, huge fridge/freezer, huge cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, hair drier, log burner, hot tub and a sauna. Lovely soft complimentary dressing gowns and towels, luxurious bedding, and finally some lovely touches such as tea, milk and cakes on arrival.

We had a lovely week, spent hours exploring the beautiful welsh mountains, and generally it was very comfortable and relaxing in the cabin, even when it rained all day. For what it cost for a family of four in August, we would say it was pretty darn good value for money.

Only a couple of things let it down. The immense dust/spider webs in every corner, floor, ceiling, above the doorways and windows. We had to vacuum extensively. And then there were the extensive list of 'rules'. Now, I understand they are somewhat necessary to keep the place in good condition but to say they were overkill is an understatement (esp if you have children and/or a canine companion.) There are laminated notices everywhere, telling you when/where/what you must/must not do, also with examples of how people have misbehaved in the past! ie a list of what you cannot put down the toilet, including nappies, 'oh yes we've had someone do this'. Now we are decent people, I'd like to think we are considerate and would have the common sense not to put nappies down a toilet! We are certainly not stupid, but all these detailed rules made you feel like you just could be! To be honest towards the end of the week it was grating on my nerves because you felt like you couldn't completely relax!

Also, one morning mid-week we were still in our dressing gowns, and a chap walks right past the windows and goes into the back garden -a tad alarming- eventually he knocks on the back door (not front) and tells us he's here to 'check' the hot tub (for which the rules are extensive!) Couldn't help but feel he was checking up on us. Same guy also turned up fifteen minutes before we were due to leave on the last day - again felt like he was checking up on us, ensuring we were leaving by the designated time.

One other thing to note, which has nothing to do with this cabin, is that there are hardly any decent shops or supermarkets for miles and miles around! We had an Asda delivery when we got there but needed some things later, apart from a few Spa stores with limited (expensive) goods, we couldn't find a larger supermarket without having to drive for nearly two hours! On one hand it's lovely to be so remote and quiet but just make sure you take everything you need!

Would we go back again? That's the million dollar question... on facilities, location and value alone, I guess, yes. But with all those stifling rules and the checking up on you... maybe not. As much as I loved our holiday in this cabin, I think we will be looking elsewhere next year.

“Fantastic!”

I was expecting a lot and I wasn't disappointed!! The lodge was spacious and clean with everything you needed, a proper home from home. Milk and cakes in the fridge when we arrived and the jacuzzi already warm. There was nothing not to like! A great location for travelling around Snowdonia. We particularly liked Barmouth but ventured as far as Snowdon and the surrounding area.
Myself and my 2 children (7 & 8) will definitely return. They said it was the best holiday they'd had in this country.

Both myself and my wife had a long weekend stay in Milk Wood. We were very impressed with the accommodation and the surrounding area was immaculate. I would definitely recommend Milk Wood Lodges.

“Home from home haven”
Reviewed 11 June 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed for a week during the Easter break with our children (8&10) and had a wonderful time, despite sampling some of the Great British weather!!
MilkWood was a heavenly home from home from the moment we arrived (to Easter eggs!) to the morning we left. The rooms are spacious and the kitchen is well stocked, there is everything you could need from a cheese grated to DVD player, not to mention the sauna and hot tub!
We did the Torrent Walk which is a circular walk that starts just along the main road towards Dollgellau, we also cycled at Coed y Brenin and along the old railway lines to Barmouth. We ate out at Cross Foxes and The Lemon tree in Dollgellau both of which were lovely, and had fish and chips at the Mermaid in Barmouth! We also visited Harlech castle, Aberystwyth and the Centre for Alternative Technology and would recommend them ALL!

The only 'faults' we could find were the lack of cushions on the sofa which meant lazing around on the wettest afternoons/evenings when we didn't want to go out was a bit less comfy than we like and an incident with the lady next door who complained about us playing music in the hot tub - she wasn't rude it just made us wary of making ANY outside noise from then on :/
