What a wonderul place to stay! Lovely, spacious and bright. Plenty of room and decorated in a fresh contemporary theme. 8 of us rented the barns for a weekend wedding and they were so comfortable and really made our weekend extra special. I hope to bring my family here so they can experience it too!!
We stayed at Sambrook in Churn Cottage which is a beautiful converted barn. Upon arrival we were met by Sarah, although heavily pregnant she was most welcoming and showed us around Churn Cottage. There was a welcoming bowl of fresh fruit and fresh eggs which were delicious. Fabulous underfloor heating throughout the cottage, although we did turn it off other than in the bathroom as we were so lucky with the weather and didn't need it on. One double bedroom and one twin bedroom, very comfortable beds and a proper cot for our 2 year old not a travel cot as we have had in other places. Fully equiped kitchen and lots of fluffy towels in the bathroom. Our own fenced off garden area with washing line and patio table and chairs and the icing on the cake was the field of sheep at the back of our propery with some very cute lambs. We will definitely be returning in the future.
I stayed twice within two months at Sambrook Manor holiday cottages; first time was in January with my daughter, in Churn Cottage, after Sarah obliged us with a short-notice, 5-day stay – something holiday cottage agencies just cannot manage! The second time was in mid-March with my husband and elderly father, in The Old Shippen.
Sarah and Andrew are warm and welcoming but never intrusive. The quality of the finish to the conversions is exceptionally high, the beds very comfortable and the towels gorgeous! The under-floor heating is to die for, as is the Wet Room shower in Churn Cottage! It’s also very pleasing to know that the electricity, heating and hot water are powered from re-cycled waste products and photo-voltaic panels. Free wi-fi is also available and there is plenty of parking outside the cottages.
If you appreciate the natural world and crave calmness and tranquility, the view from the cottages is like no other, and is ever-changing – a good pair of binoculars is an absolute must! From gently curving hillsides to merging streams to newborn lambs just outside the window, to buzzards circling right above our heads, to the night-sky full of stars, to moonrises and unmissable sunrises...
Nearby there’s a convenient Waitrose on the edge of Newport, lovely walks along the Shropshire Union Canal from Tyrley Locks, and recommended places to visit within an hour’s drive are Blists Hill Victorian Town at Ironbridge, and the viaduct and aqueducts at Chirk and Pontcysyllte, near Wrexham. My elderly father travelled to Stafford railway station to join us, and this was very convenient with helpful staff, and approximately 30 mins drive away.
Very reluctantly did we leave this part of Shropshire’s ‘proper farming country’ with its uncrowded and decent roads, to return to Surrey’s potholes and pushy motorists! We will certainly recommend Sambrook Manor holiday cottages to friends and family; just as long as they leave some availability for our return!
I chose The Old Shippen from the Internet. We wanted a large property to accommodate my husband and me, our two daughters, one son-in-law and 6 grandchildren ranging in age from 8 years down to 4 months. I haven't been able to stop congratulating myself - what a wonderful choice.
Sarah and Andrew are most welcoming hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The cottage is beautifully appointed and nothing has been done "on the cheap". The leather suite in the lounge was much envied by one of our daughters and I think had the car been bigger it might have gone!!
The children had a wonderful time, as had we. Sarah and Andrew's well-mannered and friendly children came across to play a couple of times and Sarah arrived with a huge box of outdoor toys for all the children to enjoy.
There were the lovely welcoming touches of flowers, fresh fruit and free range eggs on arrival and, in addition, we were able to buy more eggs each day.
The beds were extremely comfortable and the linen beautifully laundered. The towels in both bathrooms were to die for. The children thought that the underfloor heating was something to aim for at home!
The kitchen has every gadget imaginable including the holiday essential of a dishwasher!
We explored all the nearby towns, including Shrewsbury, Telford, Newport etc. The cottage is so well sited for exploring and the walking in the area is so interesting and the air so pure. We were lucky in that there were lots of baby lambs just outside our bedroom window - what a change from the noise of cars at home.
We can't wait to return. Well done Sarah and Andrew!

I stumbled across Sambrook through a Google Maps search and wow am I glad we did! I emailed on Monday, asking on the off chance whether their cottages were free for that same week (our original holiday to France had been cancelled by the holiday company) and, following a really friendly email exchange with Sarah, we were booked in for the next day.
While the photos on the website were impressive, I was still a little unsure - I needn't have been. If anything, the photos don't do it justice!
The kitchen was beautiful, finished to a very high standard with all the mod cons you could expect - and probably a few more! The bedrooms were all of a good size and were simply decorated, but again to a high standard. All the little touches that Sarah adds are what makes it that little bit extra special, toiletries in the bathroom, fruit on the dining table, fresh eggs, board games, and DVDs. And the views are something else.
Without sounding like I'm gushing, I'm struggling to put into words how wonderful a time we had and how lovely the cottages are! We would (and will be) recommend Sambrook to all our friends and family.
