I had great expectations when I went to Club Balai Isabel.

PROS: Wonderful view of the Taal Volcano, the pools were well maintained, the food was good

CONS: Bad service, the beach is not that beautiful, some of the rooms were not well-maintained (the aircon in our room is not working, the lock in my officemate's room is broken, etc.)

you cant ask for any plate or utensils...
front desk & reception area is very unorganized...
had to wait for an hour just to be checked-out...
unhelpful staff in general... they don't prioritize guess & would be pre-occupied with the "EVENT" (during that time it was a wedding & a pharmaceutical company conference).
its a shame.. because their place was really a gem...& the location was very easy to get to.. compared to other batangas resorts that we've been to...

Room Tip: ask for the mabini lake side suite...

Stayed here overnight from may 18 to 19, 2012 for a seminar. Had high expectations but the place was a let down. The accommodations were okay. We stayed in the Malvar suites and it had good space with 2 queen sized beds. The place was clean and comfortable. However, the food was disappointing and service was inconsistent. During our seminar where we had to stay at a function room, there was a lack of staff to take care of the guests needs and the staff of the pharma company who sponsored the seminar were the ones who served the food. The lighting where our dinner was held was also poor and there weren't any waiters to assist the guests at the start. I usually am not too demanding when it comes to service but maybe they were understaffed coz they had a lot of guests and a wedding was afoot during our stay.
For those who love the beach, I do not think that you will particularly enjoy the vibe here. Yeah, I know it's a lake but I feel there is a way to improve the grounds fronting the lake.

We stayed at this resort last Sunday, May 13, 2012 and let me tell you all that my high expectations quickly diminshed starting at the main entrance to the resort with the guards. Then at the check in desk. We were there approximately 2:40PM and we were told that the room is not yet ready. Although the check in time is at 3 PM I was expecting that the room would be available then since we have made an advance deposit of more than 50%. Anyways, the room was made available at 3 PM. Once we got to the room, "Lakeshore Suite" I was disappointed at how small and crampy the room is. The pictures on the internet made the rooms appear large enough. The room smells, and the floors were dirty. Their beddings made us itch, and their pillows smells. My family went swimming at their kumintang pool and all of them complained to me that the pool made them itch. In fact my 4 year old son developed rashes on his face after swimming in this pool! The place is not worth for what we paid for. We are definitely not coming back to this place and I would not recommend this place to my family and friends.

My husband and I stayed here last February 12-14 in celebration of our 3rd year wedding anniversary, V-day, and hubby's birthday. We found out about this place through a deal at Groupon where they sold the room at a 50% discount.

We stayed at the Malvar Lakeside suites (room 104). It was a bit of a chaos when we arrived as we couldn't find a place to park given that there was a wedding entourage on their way out. But once they all left, the reception was able to quickly hand the key to our room.

The Malvar suite is reminiscent of a condotel. There were 2 Deluxe beds which were comfy and clean. There was also a mini-kitchen complete with a sink and a stove (sadly, you aren't allowed to cook in-door though). The flat screen TV was nice but the cable channels were a bit limited. The room had a balcony that gave you a view of the next Lakeside building.

Note though that the reception of the signal inside the room is very weak. You will have to step outside the balcony to take a call or get your SMS out. The hotel's WiFi was also at its strongest only at the reception area so don't expect to get your surfing fix in the room.

Since we stayed from Sunday till Tuesday, we had enough peace and quiet. In the map they provided us, there were 3 pools. The one by the restaurant had a slide; perfect for family fun. The more larger pool (situated near the Lakeshore suites) was very beautiful. It had both a kiddie and an adult pool. Lots of space for a multitude of families. I got to warn you though, a huge portion of the pool was very deep (i think more than 10 feet deep).

For the trigger happy folks, there were a lot of flora and fauna to click away. Apart from the nostalgic view of the Taal volcano and lake, Club Balai Isabel had a chapel (very much similar to that of Calaruega) and a Butterfly Garden.

For the romantics out there, a boardwalk facing the lake was paved by the shore of Club Balai. At the end of it was a fishing port as well as "Mobi Deep" (used for practice diving( which sadly was unusable given all the moss that covered it. Hubby and I enjoyed the fishing experience. You can catch and buy one kilo of Tilapia for Php150. We caught three of the slimy fish but decided to throw them back out of pity...

We also tried the Dr. Fish and the 1 hour massage available on site. While the fish were very ticklish to the feet, we enjoyed the overall relaxing hilot of the local folk.

There was only one restaurant on site; good food and overall not so pricey but if you do need to eat, eat inside the airconditioned room. There were too many flies milling around to pest you and contaminate the food.

Overall, the stay was a good alternative to Tagaytay. The travel time was even faster than getting to Tagaytay as Talisay is just close to the end of SLEX.

Never stayed so close to the rim of the volcano before and I must say, the view was majestically spectacular on a good day.

Club Balai can expect us back soon sometime this year. It is a definite repeat.
