Conveniently located at an intersection between San José, Liberia and Nicoya, this is our official stop between home and the beach.

The food is good quality typical Costa Rican style. It may not be gourmet stuff, but they never let us down. The steak, the plátanos and most importantly our beloved gallo pinto are always top quality.

Today I take one point off for not handling plastic straws well. They almost did, to a certain point. Two straws were packed and separate from the drinks, so at least we could reject them. But a third one came inside the drink, nothing we could do about it.

Thank Mauricio V

We stopped here for a bite to catch our breath after a crazy descent down the mountain from Monteverde National Park. Our server was supper helpful and recommended two great dishes. We loved our food. And as a bonus we enjoyed watching the McCaws flying around the restaurant.

Abangares appears to be the ideal rest stop when coming to and from Tamarindo Beach. The parking lot is large; the restaurant is to the left; and the café is to the right. A small, but friendly gift shop is in the back where you can see wild animals and birds who take refuge in the sanctuary by the main house. Among the most splendid are the scarlet macaws who pose and preen while they are feeding or taking water. We also saw iguanas here, and I'm told there are other animals.

The food in the café is quite nice. There is coffee, tea, all kinds of snacks and pastries, chocolate, and soft drinks. Some in our group got ice cream...the perfect stop with friendly service. Enjoy.

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Guanacaste. The food was local fare and ok. Nothing special. Best part was seeing the macaws at the house nearby. Four of them flew all over the parking lot which was quite spectacular.

We stopped at this location on a tour we did in January 2017, not for the food, but to see the Macaws. We loved our Costa Rican trip so much that we brought our family with us in December 2017. This time we had dinner on our way from Liberia to Monteverde. The restaurant had a nice selection of typical dishes, something to suit everyone, including three vegans in our group. I wouldn't rave about the food, but it was very good, and reasonably priced. The tab was 60,000 colones ($106 US) for nine people.
