After a hard motorbike ride, a place to truly rest! Comfortable and clean rooms. Beautiful garden. The best meal ever! I regretted not having more lamb. Welcoming owners and well trained staff. Well worth a visit.

Overlooking the side of Rhodes is Walkerbouts Inn. As we were running late we phoned from Naude's Neck,to confirm that we are still on the way and requested a meal. A very friendly lady, Mare, answered an ensured us that she will wait for us. A good surprise,as she was the chef of Walkerbouts. When last were you greeted by a friendly chef, whom prepared our meal. The Inn has a well stocked bar and sell the local brew as well. House is turn of the century but very clean. The front of house manager, Rick, even treated us with song while we were eating.
The gardens are beautifully kept and an extra bonus is that there are free wi fi. Rhodes does have a "special" feel to it and one can really just unwind here.
Naude's Neck is beautiful but not for the faint hearted

On a road trip in the Eastern Cape with a friend, Walkerbouts Inn was our last stop after a very long drive from Graaf Reinet, and we got there after 7pm on New Years Eve. The last 60km was on dirt road which was slow but manageable even in our smallish car although it might have been more challenging in wet weather! A warm welcome by Rick who was like an old friend by the end of the evening, keeping us and the only other 2 guests entertained with his interesting stories. Marie provided a delicious, very traditional meal of vetkoek followed by the best ever Melk Tert! We spent the evening in the lounge and at midnight we welcomed the New year by standing outside star gazing.... there is hardly any light pollution in this remote area and this meant we were treated to a spectacular star show, what a special way to end a wonderful holiday! Our room was spacious with a nice bathroom and comfortable beds. A lovely big breakfast and lots of good advice on which route to take, and we said goodbye to this lovely, quirky Inn.... hope I can return soon!

I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and have passed your review on to Rick, Mari and Cynthia, our milk tart specialist. Without as much light pollution in urban areas, the stars at night in Rhodes are indeed stunning.

Looking forward to your return visit.
Cheers,
Dave.

Bernie's RedAle was good rand thin crust Pizzas is worth the wait. They do take debit and credit cards. Did not stay over. Only had lunch that was good fresh homely pizza. When in Rhodes remember to bring cash as the rest do not have card facilities.

We spend a night here on our way to Lesotho. We fell in love with Rhodes as a whole and the Walkerbouts Inn was a lovely place to rest a weary head. What is most striking is the friendliness of the staff. Rick checked us in and showed us around with a tag line of "Be yourself here, otherwise you wont fit in." Marie made us a wonderful homely meal, and organised us delicious packed lunches for the next day at a very last minute request. We found the openness and friendliness contagious, where the dining room in the evening is loud because guest are having discussion with other guests at different tables...everyone interested to find out stories from the other guests. If you are looking for perfect, 5-star luxury you have come to the wrong place. But if you are looking for quirky, friendly, restful, relaxing and homely with old wonky floor boards and good local food, you have come to the right place.
