“dangerous showers”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2012

we went for overnight stay with Groupon. The hotel is in a lovely setting but looks a little tired. the room was small and the bed was more like a 3/4 than a double. The menu was quite good for choice but the food was a let down quite tasteless, ther were 4 of us and we all had different starters / mains and sweets and can honestly say we were not thrilled with any of them. For what we paid it was all eatable thats all i can say. I was awake all night being sick i cannot say it was the hotel food but i am not prone to this. Asi said previously the bed seemed small doubled with the fact i was ill i did not get much sleep. The main critisism is the showers both in our room and our friends they were extremely dangerous they went from frezing cold to boiling hot we could not adjust them ended up having a cold shower. The best part of the hotel is the cosy bar but not the prices.

Room Tip: maybe ask for upgrade

myself and my partner spent one night at the Rowley Manor on Thursday 7th June , on a dinner bed and breakfast basis , using a discount voucher i had purchased - having read some of the comments i was a little apprehensive but as it turns out i needn't have worried !! What a lovely place !! yes , i admit , was a little difficult to find but once we arrived i was greeted and treated with excellence - I was using this occasion to proppse and the staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant - the room ? number 3 , was gorgeous - the bar ? excellent service - the dining room and meals - excellent and service with a smile by our waitress at dinner and at breakfast - the whole expereince was first classed and made our occasion very special indeed - full makrs to all concerned , would not hesitate to book again - a big special thanks to a lady by the name of Claire - she was marvellous from the initial booking to the end of the trip

Room Tip: ask for room 3 !!!!!

We got a Groupon deal so we paid much less for the weekend than the 'face value.' We made a booking around six months in advance, the week before we were due to go the venue phoned us to say they were holding a wedding the weekend we were booked in and it would be noisy (I said that didn’t bother us, as it would be a nice atmosphere and a buzz of people is expected at a hotel) I felt perhaps they were trying to put us off as they had double booked - the lady I spoke to assured me that want the case. The night before we were due to go they phoned and they had indeed double booked! So we rearranged for a different weekend on the promise of a meal at a tribute night and a four poster bed.
We arrived and checked in................ no four poster bed! They did however offer us a bottle of complimentary wine (that they opened there and then so we couldn't drink it later) The champagne breakfast which was included in the price didn't actually come with champagne and when we mentioned it they said we could have it with our evening meal, we asked about five times on the night before it came. The evening meal was served over an hour later than advertised and we had waited so long we only ate the starter, which was nice to be fair.
The room was freezing, and I mean freezing. Extra blankets didn't help, the wind whistled through the old windows. The wifi only worked if you sat near the door in the room! The bathroom was quite old but functional - although we didn’t use the shower as it was too cold to stand in the bathroom, so a hot bath was welcomed.
The positives were .... the building is beautiful and the pub up the road was a real find and the breakfast was lovely (we only ate one morning we didnt hang around on the Sunday) the lady at breakfast time was really friendly. Most of the other staff couldn't really be bothered.
Upon checking out they tried to charge me for the complimentary meal and for someone else’s bar bill!
We felt really really let down as we had gone to Rowley as a mini honeymoon. I did write a letter to them explaining my ordeal from start to finish, but I never received a response.

Starting with scores out of 10,,,,Location 7, Staff 9, Dinner 8, Breakfast 8, Hotel 4
We booked through Groupon advertising a luxury 2 night break at a huge discount. On arrival we were allocated room 18 this is approached up a winding narrow stair case steep enough to deter anyone with a suitcase. We opened the door to discover a small tired looking room. There were no coat hangers at all in the cupboards, The window looks out onto a sloping slate roof of another wing with no view of the ground at all. The furniture is old and very rickety. There was no remote for the TV which didn't seem to work properly at all. We complained to the management explaining this is not what we expected from the advertisement and did not intend to spend our 33rd wedding anniversary in that room. A very nice man called Alan then showed us two other rooms and we chose the largest of the two room 16,
This room was again old and very tired. There was a chest of drawers missing 3 handles and an old disused radiator badly stained with rust . We later found that the toilet took 30 mins to fill after flushing and we could hear it filling for that length of time.
We enjoyed our dinner that evening and the breakfast was excellent but we made our excuses and left........I repeat the staff are excellent but they do not have the tools to work with. If you have the word luxury in you mind avoid this one

Room Tip: We only experienced standard rooms which are described as luxury .

I stayed here on May 29th 2012 for a night with my mum. We had a lovely night the staff could not have been more helpful making sure all our needs were met even to the point of making mum a milky bedtime drink. The hotel is in a lovely setting and has a great atmosphere .I will definitely visit again
