This is one of the those few places that have remained untouched by commercialization. Its a beautiful, quiet place where you can go to relax, spend quality time with yourself and your family, and get immersed in the beauty of nature.
We traveled to Haridwar by train and took a Taxi from there. It took us 8 hrs to reach Duggalbitta. There are no hotels in Chopta, the nearest place where you can find some accommodation is Duggalbitta which is 7Kms from Chopta.
In Chopta, there isn't much to do apart from going up to Tungnath temple or even further to Chandrashila peak. The trek is 3.5 kms but its a steep climb. However all that is compensated by the beautiful views of Kedarnath peak, Chaukhamba peak and the snow clad Himalayan range.
Through out the way you will find plenty of rhododendron flowers (they change colour as the altitude increases). There are small hamlets along the way where they sell rhododendron juice (fresh) which is very refreshing.
Tungnath temple is small but beautiful. Its also the highest Shiv temple in the world.
There are ponies available that go up to Tungnath temple. So in case you are unable to walk that distance, you can always hire a pony.
