I LOVED THIS RESORT.

My family and I stayed here for 6 nights in a Family Pavilion. The pavilion was located close to the pool and Railay Beach which was ideal for us as we used both extensively. The temperature of the pool and sea water was very warm but I don't like cold water so this was a bonus.

So many positive things have already been written about this resort from the great pick up service from the airport to the warm welcome. We arrived at the resort at 11.30 am and they put us in a temporary pavilion as ours wasn't ready yet. There are only 2 family pavilions and check out is 2.00 pm so I was happy they gave us the pavilion rather than us just hanging around the resort.

The staff we encountered were amazing and very helpful. We had dinner every evening at the resort and always had great service. We ate 3 times at Krua Phranang, the thai restaurant. Also, this restaurant has two air conditioned areas which we preferred as it was very humid and we liked to avoid the mosquitoes.

We all used the spa from massages and facials to manicures and pedicures and everyone loved it. Very serene amazing place.

The resort is huge and it does take a while to orientate yourself but that was part of the fun, especially looking out for monkeys and squirrels. We called a buggy the evenings we went to the restaurant and it always arrived within a few minutes.

The resort is very serious about security and I commend them for this. We witnessed the security guard ejecting people from the pool and other people just wandering through the resort. I wonder if some of the negative reviews on this resort are due to lack of communication from the guests themselves. After all, we are visitors to their country and we need to remember that when communicating with staff who try hard but don't have the language skills.

The pavilions themselves were beautifully decorated and spacious. They were serviced three times during the day; beds and bathrooms in the morning, again in the afternoon when they'd top up the complimentary mini bar items and then turndown service at night with special treats left next to the bed.

Breakfast was a real pleasure. The staff greeted you warmly and bought you your tea or coffee straight away. You could order from the menu - international or asian food. They had the best bircher muesliI have every had and I even managed to get the recipe for it. That's how accommodating the management was!

I cannot recommend this resort highly enough. We were fortunate enough and took advantage of the pay for 4 nights and stay for 6. Still expensive but worth it!!

Room Tip: Close to the pool is good and the pavilions are in a sunnier more open space.

We spent 7 nights on Railay Beach and explored a number of hotels and decided to splurge and spend 2 nights at the Rayavadee Resort as we were told it was quite opulent.

The accommodations were comfortable and well appointed but NOT at all worth $500 plus a night. Having travelled extensively we simply found the hotel to be pretentiously priced and have stayed in better hotels for significantly less. We wondered if perhaps the exorbant price was a manner in which to address what appeared to us as low occupancy. We did not see many other guests during our short stay.

What really turned us off was that we invited some friends of ours to dine with us at the restaraunt on Phranang Beach. They arrived before us and were turned away. They were told the restaruant was completely booked. We arrived shortly after to find the restaurant completely empty. We learned later that they were turned away because they were not guests of the hotel.

I can understand a hotel wanting to maintain it's "exclusivity" but there is a fine line between wanting to maintain a nice environment for it's guests and simply being rude.

In all fairness, Rayavadee is a nice resort but, in our opinions, not worth the price. If, however, this type of "exclusivity" appeals to you...

We've been there on 23rd of March for couple days and we love the accommodation. The room (say the cottage) with s21 stories with a well maintain and great smell from the burner make the holiday feel very relax. The staff is not all nice to Thai people. But just couple of them that too scare of outsider to get in the resort (esp Thai) . However, none outside guest can get in to use any of resort's facilities. We love the breakfast, we love the Grotto Bar (@ Phranang Bay). Don't expect much for a beauty of the beach and sea, but the scenery is great. (Anyway, we must buy the day trip to many islands around) Don't Miss....Viewpoint of the Railay. You need to Calm up 250 Meter from the route from Nam mOa Bay to Phra Narng Bay. Love the adventure and the beauty of the top view. Bring your sport shoes..and if you can make it to the lagoon go make it. I could not make it but they said it fantastic.

On arrival you will be shocked and indeed taken aback with the courtious way you are greeted at the airport and the well groomed appearance. You are spoilt straight away with cold towels and cold drinking water at the start of the luxury drive to the quay for your onward transfer by sea to a little piece of paradise. The smiles have not stopped from the time you landed. Registration is indeed a very comfortable relaxed affair. Then you are escorted to your pavilion by buggy and you will see the wonderful scenery which is all around you wether you like gardens, mountains or just natural beautiful surroundings. The facilities whether it be pool, sea, spa, restaurants are all on a different exceptional level. From the management right down to gardeners and cleaners everone is so happy helpful and caring. The newer updated pavilions are much improved making them fresher, more spacious and lighter. We are returning for our 6th visit. No comparison relax take in the scenery and the tranquil surroundings. The best ever greeting and most welcoming resort ever visited.

Room Tip: The pavilions around the lawn area are lighter and nearer the fantastic pool.

My wife and I spent (only…) 3 nights at Rayavadee where we stayed in the best room ever, we enjoyed the most beautiful swimming pool ever in an outstanding location. That said, it was also the most expensive stay ever, but it doesn’t mean we have been totally satisfied. Let’s review the property step by step, the positive side first :

- Location : Breathtaking ! This large resort sits on a peninsula surrounded by three beaches and very high cliffs, a stunning location reachable only by boat. When tide is low, guests are transferred from the shuttle boat to the beach on a mobile platform trailed by a tractor, a funny experience. All accommodation are scattered among a beautiful garden, with many species of trees and flowers. There is also some animal life like monkeys, squirrels, toucans, etc.

- Room : We booked a Deluxe Pavilion (the “basic” room), a well decorated and very comfortable two storeys bungalow in the middle of the luxuriant garden. There is a living room and a small bathroom on the ground floor, while the bedroom and the main bathroom occupies the first floor. Some stuffs from the minibar (Singha beer, sodas, snacks) are complimentary. I can’t remember ever staying in a so beautiful accommodation.

- Beach/Pool : The resort has direct access to three different public beaches. At one end, there are Railay East (not really suitable for swimming) and Railay West, a nice and large stretch of sand that could become very tight at high tide. But the most scenic and popular beach is Phra Nang, stuck down the impressive cliffs. The natural beauty of the spot is unfortunately not a secret anymore and it attracts dozens of day-trippers from Ao-Nang or Krabi, making it potentially very busy between 10am and 4pm. But the amazing infinity pool overlooking Railay West Beach is an excellent alternative. The surroundings, the shape and the location make it very special. We loved it !

- Food : Faultless breakfast buffet offering a large range of international and local dishes, the perfect way to start a day in heaven ! We had all our lunches either at the Grotto, a lovely bar & restaurant set in a small cave on Phra Nang, or at Raitalay Terrace, next to the pool and Railay West beach. It’s difficult to complain about anything, as both service and food were great. This applies to the Krua Phranang too, the excellent restaurant by the sea where we had two lovely dinners. It’s of course more expensive than in town, but not overpriced.

- Activities : There are a large range of activities organized by the resort and I did the tour to Hong Islands. It’s more expensive than other tour operators in town, but it’s definitely worth the price difference as they schedule the excursion to avoid peak hours and inadequate tide at destination. We were at the main beach of Hong before everybody and had 1.5 hour to enjoy this almost private white sand and pristine water spot. A lot of boats were arriving at the time we left, while tide was almost at its top, leaving only a tight stretch of sand for dozens of tourists… Not sure they enjoyed the place like we did, thanks to Bond and his crew.

- Service : Out of specified area mentioned lower, the level of service was globally outstanding. Front desk, waiters, cleaners, gardeners, guides, etc, the whole staff was very friendly and highly polite. It’s what we expect in this king of hotel, but it’s not always the case.

Well, it makes a lot of positive things but we have anyway a couple of criticisms :

- Wifi : Our major complaint ! Free access is only available at the library, otherwise it cost $15 a day for a full access... Come on, that’s not serious, how could it be possible to charge that on top of rooms cost starting at $700 a night ? That’s a shame !

- Service at pool : While service is fine around the sundeck next to the Phra Nang (the beach is a national park, sun beds are not allowed), it’s a real challenge to catch a waiter around the pool. And it didn’t happen once, it was the standard every day.

- Transfer : Even if our driver was certainly partly involved in the issue, our transfer from the pier to the resort has been way too long. A staff told us to wait 10 minutes for the shuttle boat arrival, not a problem at all. But it finally came only 45 minutes later, and we had to wait around the pier where there is not even a bench… Certainly not a 5* service.

- Service and taxes charge : all prices within the resort are shown without service & taxes. It means that a 17% cost has to be added on any bill. I don’t think it’s very positive commercial approach, it wouldn’t cost anything to the management to show net prices, a fairer process to me.

These negatives points are not critical enough to tip the balance to negative, but in such a 5* hotel, all details are important and as guests, we have the right to expect a blameless service. This review will end with two advices that could improve the quality at Rayavadee :

- The resort is very large and it takes a good 10 minutes walk to go from Phra Nang to Railay West where there is the unique pool. An additional one could definitively be an added value.

- At night, it can be troublesome to find its way in the garden as paths and signs are not very well enlightened. This is something to improve from my point of view.

Our stay at Rayavadee was a kind of special bonus during our trip in Thailand as it cost us much more than our standard budget but we didn’t regret our choice. It means we’re not sure to go back there again, but we would anyway recommend it to all.
