“Mandarmani”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2012

We started from Howrah Station. Boarded NJP-Digha Paharia Express as this was a Saturday train. The train was late by 2 hours (Better plan to travel by Friday through Tamralipta Express) or any car from Kolkata (roughly 4 hours journey).
We reached there at 2.00 pm (ETA of Paharia Express to Kathi (Contai) railway station is 10.40 am). We planned before hand to reach Digante Resort and had our booking confirmed through Mr. Swarup Adhikary (Mobile can be searched through Net). The person was very generous and had our hotel rooms booked, even asked us of our satisfaction when we reached there. The NEFT could not work for this account, even though Mr. Adhikary arranged everything, and thats too on a phone call.
The manager, all staff of this resort were extremely co-operative and I truly feel that I am in home, visiting their resort. We stayed at a cottage, rent of which is within 1500/-. The food were good, and homely cuisine served hot and fresh. They take on orders and we assemble at their rooms kept as a restaurant (as the main restaurant is under renovation now). The resort is situated close to the Beach and they have a wonderful ambience, with a lake, garden, pine trees and a dozen of swans plying in the garden. The room service was beautiful and they take care of each and every person till satisfied.
I love this approach and will recommend to all my friends to stay at this place in the close vicinity to nature, without choosing for any other option.

Nice place for leisure travellers and small vacation for 2 to 3 days. Know most of the corporate uses for beach conferences like whole day meeting then group gathering at beach party.
Best place to remove your stress and strain,This place has changed like any thing, last when i visited on 2008. In the span of four years so many new hotel have come up with quality of service and food i really enjoyed that place on this visit. I rate that place 3.5/5.

“Nice location for a short trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2012

This is a nice location for a short trip. The distance from Kolkata is 4 to 4 and half hours. If you are travelling by car : Beware of locals stopping the car and asking for road improvement fees. Also choose a good hotel on the beach. The way to the hotels is a driveway through the beach. Hence during high tides you are cut off. But all that somehow adds to the beauty of the place. You will have many photographic moments, where in the entire panorama you are the only one on the beach. No mad rush of Puri or Digha. The sunset is beautiful. The nights are not illuminated with street lamps. But you can hear the waves crash in at high tides or atleast the sea nearby. Quite unique. Go for an rustic experince of a beach that is still virgin and not developed. Where the beach is still vacant . But the waters that were pristine blue some years back are becoming mossy now. Ride a local auto in the beach , that takes you through the straight beach and to a place where the sea meets a river. Crossover to the other side on a boat and watch a flock of birds fly above your head , thousand of small red carbs hide for cover as your auto passes. Do not expect world class amenities or world class food. A must for a city weary souls.

Like - near Kolkata, not very crowded
Dislike - water levels vary greatly - in Nov one could not bathe, there were no amenities like shade/any water sports/trainer like helpers available at say Digha/Puri.

“Come to Mandarmoni for blissful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2012

We took an early morning train from Howrah upto Contai (which comes prior to Digha). Thereafter engaged a full Tata Iris van for the 6 of us, which took around an hour to reach Mandarmoni (30 Km from either Contai or Digha). The small resorts with cottages are just beside the beach and are protected from high tide by boulders. The water sports facilities are in front of the adjacent large resorts - Rose Valley Hotel & Hotel Sonar Bangla. There is a Lakshmi-Narayan temple on the premises of Rose Valley Hotel, which is accessible to all but visitors in shorts are not allowed. The trip in motorised van rickshaw over the sand upto the Mohona (confluence of river and sea) was breath taking. Beachside stalls offer mouth watering fare for breakfast as well as lunch. Had very tasty pomfrets after prior ordering in one Ma Ganga stall. Enjoyed the sea water entering the stall during evening time at high tide while we were having tea. The best part is that during the weekdays the rush is less and you can experience the bliss of solitude, only you and the waves. Stayed at beach side cottages in Priyajeet Resort but there was restriction in A/C use (fixed times only during A/N & night). Shifted the next day to JP Resort on the other side of the road and enjoyed their swimming pool facility and food and unlimited A/C facility.
