“Perfect place to unwind...”
Reviewed 26 December 2011

This is one place that lived up to its reviews. We spent 3 nights in Flameback. What struck me first was the tranquility. The property is suurounded by hills and coffee planattions, there is even a small lake. We stayed in the paddy cottage, aptly named as we were surroundered by lush paddy fields. It was almost like we were in Bali. The cottage has a nice sit out but we did not get to use it much as it was raining most of the time we were there. We had a look at the villa too but i think the cottage is perfect for a couple. There is a very nice pool too. What i like the best was absence of phone signals! I think only BSNL phones work up there. We called our folks from the reception. And if you a dog lover you will fall in love with the resident alsatians, they welcome you everytime you enter the dining area, they come with you on your walks or guard you cottage door through the night :)
The staff there are very warm and friendly. Food was simply amazing, I am sure i put on a few kgs while i was there. Both indian and continental food is available. Be sure to try their fish dishes! The choice of beverages is ok. There are a lot of outdoor activities that one can do, but we went in the rainy season so the only thing we could do was go on long walks. You can ask them to take you on drives in their SUV. There are some very scenic places, waterfalls, and ancient temples.
The only thing that we were not happy about are any signboards leading to the resort. We had a bit of difficulty, even though they assisted us with directions on the phone.
Overall we had a wonderful time!! We will be back but this time when its not raining :) Thank you Bharath and rest of the staff for making our stay memorable!

Spent two days at the Flameback with another family. Was an outstanding experience. The cottages are very well appointed and comfortable, the food is excellent, and the staff was really warm and friendly. I would recommend the resort without any exceptions!!

Just one tip - it is best to give the resort a call once you reach Mudigere, as you will need help finding the place.

Flameback is 250kms/5.5hrs from Bangalore. the last 1 hr of the journey has awful roads, the rest is sooperbly maintained roads, absoultely scenic journey.
the resort was delightful, Kartikeya's plantation seems to be everywhere, its 250acres of the lushest foliage - a birders dream. The resort itself sits on an 80acre property i think. 3 of us stayed in the luxury villa. they had an extra bed put in there. we were in the first villa which had a beautiful deck. the villa was ultra spacious with a large bedroom, a living room, pantry, outside shower, one big bathroom with a jaccuzi and a 2nd toilet. it was tastefully done with wood panelling and all 360 degree views thanks to XL glass windows/doors all around. it's completely private, you don't even see the next villa.
my fav part is that there is zero cell fone network thru the property, also no landlines in the rooms. uninterrupted bliss it is.
the food - was good, the best of local cuisine, all alocohol and other beverages (including the mini bar) are included in the room tariff.
activities - their drivers take you in the resort SUV's to all attractions. we were taken in the Pajero to Devarmane and the valley. It was the most breathtaking sight ever. the driver Surendranath knows his way around and gave us all the local lore. he was great.
we were also taken on the plantation walk, where we saw the rest of the estate, coffee, oranges, the owners beautiful bungalow and the rest.
we paid Rs.13000 for 2 for a night + rs.3780 for the 3rd person in the room. this is all inclusive, F&B and all activities minus the spa. this resort id tranquil, not fulla people and screaming kids. they have no more than 3 villas, a few paddy cottages and 2 suites, so you gotta book ahead during busy weekends and season time. all in all this was the best resort in Chikmagalur, even better than the Serai or the Taj resort.

I usually do a lot of research & talk to friends before going to any hotel/resort with my wife.. Flameback is one such resort I got amazing reviews from few other couples who went there before.. SO decided to go thr to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. Booking wasnt very great experience, as I had to follow up couple times to make sure everything was taken care of. Its an "all inclusive" resort, which includes even alchohol. I made sure to check about the drinks part before travelling, the manager was prompt in responding saying "u can get anything specific if you want, otherwise we have a good variety which you can chose from"..
Best thing about the travel was its not too far from Bangalore, I guess we took about 4.5-5 hours by car. we reached thr for lunch. it was a weekday, so no one else except US !.. but it was surprising to see everyone in the resort welcoming us as like some VVIP's, we had customized lunch after checking in to the cottage. Food was amazing, good variety. They have different cottages, we took the "paddy villa", which was overlooking the paddy fld. It was great, with nice views & good patio space.. There wasnt any phone signal, so no calls to disturb.. had tea in the evening, couldnt go out as it was raining.. They prepared a cake for us :).. as we were just 2 guests, dinner was sent to our room. with some drinks with it !.. great service.. next morning we had a massage session. there was a couple who were in charge of the massage sessions, we both had an hour long sessions.. but this is the ONLY thing we didnt enjoy much, at least not for the price we paid. More so, after we realized they are the same guys who were cleaning the swimming pool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... so they werent any professionals..we cudnt go out much as it was raining, except for a morning walk to the coffee plantation, it was a great exercise & fun!.. we will make sure to visit this place again, but no massage for sure!!! :)

It was a great stay at the flame back lodges. The 1 km mud road to the hotel was not ideal for luxury cars, and there was not a roofed parking area. There was no sign board to the hotel to guide us. The hotel people guide us through the telephone. We got a warm reception by providing chilled bear. I went there for 3 days with my parents and wife. We took 2 rooms for our stay. Very spacious rooms, great spa massages, excellent food etc. made our stay comfortable. The management arranged a white bearded buffoon named Mr.Sunil for our enjoyment. With loud laughs and jokes he was entertaining the guests till midnight. He did his duty as a comedian perfectly. But I think this is not necessary, because some people can not enjoy their privacy because of this. They took us for a good trucking, was amazing and enjoyed too much. Definitely I recommend this hotel to other tourists.

Room Tip: Luxury cottages are the best.
