My brother and his family very kindly gave me a voucher for a 30 minute flight in a Tiger Moth for my 40th birthday. I logged about 20 hours flying time in my youth on gliders and Chipmunks through the Air Cadets and the CCF, so have always been interested in aviation, but was a little nervous given the 25+ years since last I flew in a single prop!
I needn’t have worried in the slightest, as the whole experience on the day was perfect from beginning to end. Josh whom was working ground side on the day was charming company. He walked us through the safety brief and general housekeeping before the pilot Steve returned to the office from the previous flight.
Steve was most affable - asked if I had any previous flying experience and went through the instructions for handing control back and forth between himself and myself (I would highly recommend emphasising that you would like to try your hand at flying, even if you’ve never done it before).
Steve was a consummate and patient instructor whom really blew any of my pre-flight nerves away
Having an open cockpit was entirely new for me, but aside from take off and landing, I pretty much flew the Tiger Moth for the whole time we were up there. This does mean that the chance to enjoy the view was limited as you are constantly trying to keep level whilst banking, and also checking for the required rudder alterations on the instrument panel, but I would take this every time over the view. I even got the chance to taxi back a short distance after landing - Just in time for tea and medals!! (A certificate).
My one piece of advice for anybody using a buyagift.com voucher would be to not book their experience online, but to contact Perry Air directly by phone with your voucher details, as I did get a bit of a headache trying to book with buyagift’s listed “middle-man” experience provider - though this is no reflection on Perry Air at all.
If you are looking for a bite to eat, the excellent Hummingbird Cafe is a short walk from the Perry Air hangar, but I would recommend leaving your car at Perry Air’s car park, otherwise you will have to pay for your space.
I would wholeheartedly recommend the flying experience with Perry Air to anybody. I hope to go back soon and book some time in their Stomp and maybe get a chance to do some aerobatics.
A class outfit and experience - from beginning to end.
What a day! Everyone was wonderful from start to finish. The welcome was so warm, and everyone was so friendly.
The flight with Cedric was just unbelievable. He was so informative and put me at ease. My partner had a flight before me and he loved every minute too. It was the most amazing experience. I can honestly recommend this to anyone who loves flying. Back to basics in a 1940’s aircraft.
And after I finished my flight, my partner proposed to me on the airfield!! Everyone at Perry Air was in on it, and were there to share my special moment!
Thank you for the most wonderful day.
My gorgeous husband Dave gave me 40 minute flight in a Tiger Moth biplane for my birthday this year! Yessss! I've wanted to fly in an open cockpit ever since I saw 'Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines' when I was 10! I had no interest in taking the controls and I trusted Ian to fly expertly without my help! I just wanted the experience..
We were greeted kindly by Carolyn and then Ian and then Bill carefully settled me into the plane making sure I didn't stand on the wrong bits. Dave stood nearby and took photos.
And the Ian did fly expertly and we had a superb flight over to Arundel and then back along the coast, doing some banking over the sea which was amazing! I walk all over the Downs and seeing my favourite areas from the air was breath-taking.
It was so exciting to experience the noise and smell of this gorgeous 78year old plane as well- such a privilege!
Thank you to everyone who made the experience so wonderful for me. As Dave pointed out if people like Ian didn't maintain these old aircraft they would be gone for ever.
Today 19/5/2018 I took to the sky in a pa 28 warrior four seater. My wife was able to sit in with us. My pilot was jhon Williams who was brilliant as with all the staff. We whent from shoreham down to Portsmouth and back . I would reconmmend perry air any time .i would use them again.

An opportunity to fly in this marvellous aircraft has fulfilled one of my life ambitions. I am so glad that I chose Perryair for this experience as everybody on the staff that I met was very friendly and efficient and made the day for me. Thank you Ian for allowing me to take the controls. I am still in a state of excitement and don't want to come down to earth.
The sun was shining and the sky was blue. Not a cloud to be seen.
On my arrival, I was welcomed by a very professional and courteous team.
I met Cedric my instructor who took me under his wing (pun intended) for a tutorial on how to fly. What a fantastic Guy. He made me feel completely at ease and in safe hands.
I had the most wonderful experience as we flew east down the coast to Eastbourne then banked off to the left to fly over my house in Polegate.
All in all, we were in the air for just over the hour. It was great fun being in control of the plane and learning how to fly.
Thank you, Cedric, and thank you Perry Air for giving me such a memorable experience.
Highly recommended.
