Ever since we read a newspaper review of this hotel 4 years ago we wanted to stay here and we were not disappointed. This place is amazing and our week long stay there was unforgettable. The assortment of meats, cheeses and cakes that Ellio served us every morning was fantastic and the cappucino's were perfect. The room we had was large and comfortable and the service that Ellio and Stefania provided was the best experience of any hotel we have stayed at. They even drove us to the train station and picked us up so we could take the train to Florence for the day.

We got married in the nearby town of San Gimignano during our stay at Vecchio Asilo and Ellio and Stefania were wonderful in helping ourselves and our friends make this special day even better than we could have expected. On the morning of our wedding, Ellio presented us with a bouquet of flowers with breakfeast and upon our return later that evening, we found a bottle of Proseco waiting that completed a perfect day.

I would recommend this place for all the above reasons and many more.

Thanks
Gary and Marilyn

We had made plans to stay at this little hotel for several years. When we decided to get married, we chose to get married in Italy and selected the nearby town of San Gimignano. From the moment we opened the front door of the hotel, Ellio and Stefania went out their way to be the ultimate hosts and provided us and everyone else with the best customer service I have ever experierienced. From the amazing breakfast to being a taxi to take us to the train to go to Florence for the day, they went even further.

On the morning of our wedding there, Ellio presented us with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. When we returned in the late evening after the wedding dinner, there was a wonder bottle of Proseco waiting for us to make our day complete. Ellio and Stefania helped us and our friends in making this a wedding that far exceeded our expectations.

I will stay hear again when I return to Toscana and would recommend this charming little hotel to anyone.

car rental essential - great recommended close by restaurant - watch out for the mad italin drivers lol

We enjoyed our stay there and the 5 rating should say enough. This hotel has wonderful strengths, but please see more below. The best thing about it is the innkeeper. He is wonderful. He made our visit to San Gimignano perfect with his thoughts and recommendations. He made our breakfasts works of art. His garden was beautiful, the views were wonderful and we loved falling asleep with the windows open over the Tuscan countryside over the vineyards. My wife said her sleep there was the best she'd had in the entire trip.

Before booking here, though, be sure you are right for this place. First, it does not have air conditioning, which, 360 days a year shouldn't matter in this place... We were there in late August in a heat wave, so in the evenings it wasn't a problem but if you stay in the room, it would be. Second, its internet is very funky. These days, it shouldn't be a problem, but it was here. Finally, it was "off the grid". It was about 5 KM outside of San Gimignano, which is actually a long way on those roads.

I mention all this so you can properly evaluate it. If you want a lovely room with a truly wonderful innkeeper who is enormously sincere, but not in the town itself, this is definitely your place. If you need to be in the town or you must have air conditioning 365 days or you plan to be there in August and plan to stay in the room, please just consider the above.

Net, though, our innkeeper's honesty and caring trumps all the concerns and we net out a "5".

Stayed one night here with my family in August. Our host was charming and the rooms very comfortable; we enjoyed our stay and have no complaints.

However, it was not what we were expecting.

Location
The hotel is not in some rural idyll but on a hairpin bend on the main road to San Gimigniano, and the building is not set back but sits directly on this road with no front garden. So there is some traffic noise - at least we heard it in our two rooms which were at the front. Our view was of the buildings opposite, where we heard neighbours chatting and saw them through their windows - we had been hoping to look out on the gorgeous hills, vineyards and olive groves of the area. The small pretty garden is alongside the road also, and there does not appear to be any other communal area.

Breakfast
We were overnighting en route back to the UK and were looking forward to filling our boots with the much lauded breakfast for a long day’s drive ahead of us. On arrival in the dining room we were a little disappointed: the tables were set with lots of small things in pre-packaged portions (nutella, toasts etc) and one of those table bins for wrappers. There was no buffet to speak off, just a small quantity of salami and cheese and some little bags of what looked like cocopops without their boxes. After we had made a start on this, plates started to arrive: first two types of homemade cake; then, rather unexpectedly, some pizza (small pieces and rather doughy), lastly two fruit platters, with paper thin slices of a medley of fruits beautifully arranged. The fruit was very welcome but we would have preferred to know what was coming and ideally to have started with the fruit as the only really healthy option available.
