We have dined at here on several occasions and never been disappointed.
The beautiful house is welcoming and intimate. Service is individual and helpful and at the same time non intrusive. There's no rush for the next diner as there are a small amount of covers in the restaurant so you are free to take your time.
Previously we ate on the New Year's special and enjoyed half a lobster, the shared side of beef cooked in juicy slithers which was incredible with plenty of creamy sauce on the side.Even us greedy pair were struggling to finish but we couldn't help going back for more. It was an evening to remember with lots of delicious small starters before the main event.
On this occasion we tried some new additions to the menu. We both chose a crab cake served in it's shell and having tasted quite a few on a recent trip to Monterey which is famed for seafood chowder and crab cakes, I can say that these were on point. Next up my husband had sea bream (possibly seabass!) and I had cod with scallops and prawns in a cream sauce served en papillote - both were fantastic and offered a lighter option to some of the traditional french dishes.
The cheese course is included and chef Paul will talk you through all the options which he lovingly sources from miles around the region and all served with port and served generously by his wife Val.
I can often resist a dessert when I'm out as they can be a let down frankly, but again these are superb. If you're lucky they'll have their delicious lemon meringue pie. Other favourites on the menu are the creme brulee and I a nougat ice cream layered with raspberry sorbet which makes a refreshing end to the meal.
For the standard of food, the personal 'french food' experience this is ten out of ten. On top of that it's good value with set meals of around 21 and 27 euro plus a kids meal and veggie option. There's a la carte menu if you want to free style and you can opt for the fine wines or order by carafe depending on your budget. Seriously, what more could you ask for?
Having just returned from a world trip and eaten some fabulous food I can say that this is right up there. Make sure you call ahead as the restaurant has limited seating and is very popular due to some recent awards and well deserved magazine and online coverage!
