The hotel is well located, a reasonable walk from the old town and Plains of Abraham. Our room was comfortable. The owner is very helpful, in English and French, showed us the facilities, gave tips on restaurants and walking routes.

This hotel is charming, comfortable, and immaculately clean. The decor is sophisticated and tasteful. And as the many rave reviews on this site attest, the proprietor and his staff will bend over backwards to help acquaint you with Quebec City. We found that one of this establishment's chief advantages is its neighborhood; it's outside of the city walls, with great shops and restaurants only a block or two away. It's also not far to walk to the old city; it takes about 25 minutes to walk to Chateau Frontenac. Breakfast is optional, but we decided that $9.75 for a Continental breakfast was a not a good value. Tutti Frutti, a restaurant next door that serves breakfast and lunch, is a better option.

This is a great inn if you want to experience Quebec beyond the big hotels and tourist areas. It is located in an ideal location that is near great restaurants - where the locals go - on Cartier. There is also a pharmacy and grocery on Cartier. The inn is two blocks from Ailee where there are numerouse fine dining and patio area restaurants and the Plains of Abraham. It is within walking distance to Old Town and if you don't want to drive, the cab ride is about $9.00.

Our room was the Royal Palace and had a queen and single bed. The room was large enough with a small table and chairs for morning coffee. The room shares a small kitchen with two other rooms. Coffee, coffee maker, tea and tea carafe, microwave, and refrigerator are available for use. The room has a shower, toilet and sink. Everything is spotless.

The staff was exceptionally helpful and strived to make our visit pleasant. We would certainly stay there if we go to Quebec again.

Room Tip: Royale Palace - large room in lower level. Easy access to street

We completed a 6 night stay at the Auberge Aux Deux Lions just last week. I can truly say that it was one of the most positive experiences in hospitality that I have encountered in over 30 years of travel across North America!

This small Inn is located on the outskirts of the Quebec City downtown area, about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the gates of the Old City and about a 5 minute walk to the Plains of Abraham park. Located within the restaurant and boutique shopping zone, the location offers innumerable opportunities for adventures both gastronomic and retail. It is also well serviced by public transit, although travelers should note that cab ride from the airport will set you back about $34 (flat rate).

The Inn itself is located in a renovated heritage house + addition which has been extensively (and very tastefully) redecorated and refurbished. A variety of room types are offered, all with ensuite or with a dedicated bathroom directly across the hall (remember, some of the rooms are located within a former heritage home). Our room was one of the larger rooms with partial bath (shower stall + sink and toilet) along with a dedicated sitting/dining area and a balcony. The room was impeccably furnished, and designed to show the historic brickwork of the building. A comfortable bed, full air conditioning and a mini-fridge ensured helped ensure an enjoyable stay. Other amenities included a full kitchen for use of the guests and an optional continental breakfast service. The price of the rooms, while not inexpensive, compare favorably with those of other larger (and much more soulless) downtown hotels.

However, I would be remiss without referencing the key element that makes the Auberge Aux Deux Lions such an amazing place to stay, and that is the incredible helpfulness and charm of the staff. Owner Jean-Francoise (who lives in the building) is a man of enormous charm and cheer, always there to greet new guests, open the door when you arrive, and provide a hearty adieu and welcome back when you leave or return to the hotel. Sandie (who most regretfully will soon depart on mat leave) epitomizes the standard of excellence for a hospitality industry employee. Whether helping to orient a guest to the area, suggesting excellent restaurants or attractions, making arrangements for things such as museum tickets, or just providing unending good cheer and helpfulness, Sandie's attentiveness and enthusiasm were a key element in making our stay so enjoyable.

It's rare in any of my reviews to not include some negatives, however minor. However, in this case I have none to offer. Our stay was unparalleled in terms of enjoyability, and we will return whenever possible. This Inn has earned its' high rating on TripAdvisor, and should you travel to Quebec City I would recommend that you make every effort to try and stay at the Auberge Aux Deux Lions, and enjoy Jean-Francois's incredible hospitality.

ps: lest this review sound too glowing, neither I nor my spouse have any association whatsoever with the Auberge.

Room Tip: 204 is one of the larger rooms and is in the heritage section of the Inn.

We had a wonderful stay at Auberge Aux Deux Lions. It is in a great location just outside the 'Old Town' (this means it is cheaper). The old town is a short walk away. The staff were super friendly and were happy and determined to meet any/every request we put to them. We were after a particular map and the owner had a copy for us within an hour of our request. Presented it to us with great pleasure and pride. Rooms are fantastic and clean (go for a room with exposed brick walls). They also have a laundry down stairs which is very handy if you're staying a while. We had a great dinner at La Scala (just a few doors along from the hotel) - it was much better (food quality and service) than any meal we had in the old town. Highly recommend staying here. It was much more enjoyable than the three nights we spent at the five-star Auberge St-Antoine in the Old Town. The St-Antoine was great but austere.

Room Tip: Choose one with brick walls - nice effect!
