`I discovered the Cap Diamant about fifteen years ago. My first visit was in the dead of a very cold winter, even for Quebec. The hotel was welcoming and cozy, and I've stayed there ever since. Mme. Guillot, the owner, keeps the place spotless. The decor is eclectic to say the least. Mirrors, whatnots, pictures and plants are everywhere. The furniture is mostly antique. The baths have an excellent supply of hot water, a real plus in January. A breakfast of pastries, fruit coffee and such are served in the breakfast parlor each morning. In nice weather, one can also eat in the back garden. The location is ideal. It is in the neighborhood just behind the Chateau Frontenac, central but a little away from the mobs that swarm the city's main streets in summer.
We found this Hotel (B&B) to be very, very clean. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. The location within the wall is just one block back from the wall adjacent to the St Lawrence Seaway.
Within walking distance to anywhere within the walled city. We parked our vehicle and walked everywhere, restaurants, museums; shops.
The Hotel Cap Diamant also has a secure area to store your bicycle should you decide to bicycle any of Quebec's wonderful spots.
The Cap Diamant is only 1 block back from the center of the old city. It is quiet and the beds are very comfortable. We stayed in a King room with a view of the city that was magical at night.
When we arrived we were met by the owner, a soft spoken and gracious women. She was prepared to give us any information needed to help us enjoy our stay. After showing us our room and helping with our luggage (there is a dumb waiter that brings up the bags), she made sure we had what we needed before leaving us to relax a couple of hours before going out to enjoy the evening.
Breakfast is simple european style with coffee, fruit, yogurt, croissant etc. We will be back.
The only problem anyone might have is the number of stairs to climb. This is an historic building and as such has many steep stairs.
Location could not be more convenient -- right in the heart of the old city -- nor could the staff have been more friendly, coooperative, or efficient. I had a quiet, wonderful room (#8) overlooking the small garden in the back of the hotel.
There are so many other very nice places in Quebec city, don't bother going there. Extreme rude service. They make mistakes and they overcharge you. Be very careful with your bill.
