“Great stay in the apartment!”
Reviewed 13 July 2012

My mother and I had a wonderful stay in the apartment for a few nights in May. It is very spacious and clean, and has an amazing private deck. It is a great option for a group or a family. We had our breakfasts downstairs, really enjoying the company of the other guestsand our lovely hosts, Petra, Daniel and Monsieur Petit. Daniel and Petra were very helpful and accommodating. It was in a nice location for all sorts of visiting since the bus was very convenient, but it was also very close to the botanical gardens and the neighbourhood was very nice. I would highly recommend their place! Thank you Daniel and Petra!

My wife and I stayed here for four nights on our honeymoon. Daniel and Petra made us feel at home (except without the need to do laundry, change the linens or the towels, or make breakfast). Petra gave us recommendations for restaurants within walking distance of the B&B, and Daniel cooked a different, hot, delicious breakfast every morning. We appreciated their extensive collection of DVDs, which gave us something to do on evenings in which we felt burned out from walking and touring all day. Between them they speak French, German, and English, so language probably won't be an issue. If you have dog allergies, stay somewhere else, because they have a small poodle who attends your every move in an adorable fashion. But if you want a taste of home, I found that having a dog around the place made it feel, somehow, much cozier.

Petra also spent 30 minutes with us on our first morning there going over a big map of the city with advice and a list of some of the things to do in different parts. It made a great companion to our LonelyPlanet Guide! Be sure to take notes, though, unless you have an excellent memory.

We look forward to our next visit to Montreal!

Room Tip: Only three rooms to pick from -- they have a calendar online so that you can see which ones are open...

Stay and confirm that this is one of the best B&Bs on an international level!

Daniel and Petra, the owners, are "salt of the earth" people and wonderful hosts. They will go out of their way to make your stay very pleasant not only at the B&B but also in the city. For our very early arrival on a weekday they picked us up from the airport, dropped us off downtown and took our luggage back to the B&B so we could enjoy the day right away (at the regular "downtown taxi" fare which was a great deal). If it's your first time in the city do yourself a favor and ask Petra for tips on where to visit and how to get there, she's very helpful! They're always available for questions, but will also give you privacy and space when you want it.

Amenities in the B&B include access to the kitchen, fridge and dining room, if you have leftovers or want to cook something. The living room is a great place to relax after a day's walk around town, and in the winter the fireplace is very cozy. There's also WiFi with good signal and speed all throughout the B&B, and a large DVD collection free of charge. The wooden floors are nice but a little creaky, specially at night. During the winter the entire house is kept at a very comfortable temperature, and the heaters in the rooms are more than enough to keep you toasty at night.

The included breakfast will save you time and money because it's very abundant and delicious. Daniel is a great cook and he will adapt the menu if you have a particular need. For lunch or dinner there are many restaurants within walking distance on Rue Mason (Frites Alors around the corner!) and a convenience store half a block away. If you prefer to dine in you can always order pizza from the neighborhood place, it's good and fast.

The location is a bus ride away from the metro, it will take you 30 minutes to get Downtown. This is not a problem, public transportation in Montreal is reliable all yearlong. During our stay they lent us cards for the bus and metro, so we could load them with daily or weekly passes. The neighborhood is quiet and residential, family friendly too.

We stayed at the Mother Nature room and it was comfortable for 2 people. The room is on the back of the house so it's very quiet during the day and night, even when there are people in the kitchen. The bathroom has a jacuzzi which works well, although it's not recommended that you use it at night because of the noise. One of the bathroom doors faces the hall, so you might feel awkward if you're using it and hear steps nearby.

And saving the best for last, there's M. Petit, who will make your stay unforgettable. He's friendly, adorable, funny, and he has a Facebook page for fans, need I say more?

This is a long review because I truly believe that this is more than a place to spend the night, it's a place to make friends and feel at home while visiting the city. Do yourself a favor and stay away from cheap B&Bs, book in advance (specially during the summer) and enjoy this jewel in Montreal.

Room Tip: Book the Suite Juillard for the extra room.

We recently stayed at A la Carte Bed and Breakfast and found the experience so warm and friendly. The owners Daniel and Petra along with Monsieur Petit, their adorable mini poodle, made our weekend stay in Montreal a memorable one. Their BandB is warm and inviting, and a comfortable way to not only stay but to feel as if you are a native. Dan cooks a mean breafast and Petra will tell you the ins and outs of the city and pretty much whats happening that week.
They made us feel welcomed and cared for. We would not hesitate to return.
