Recently came back from a long trip to Tokyo and Kyoto in which I learnt what sushi is suppose to be like. Since then, I have been disappointed, even by plates of over +100$ in Montreal - cycled through all the overly hyped sushi places this city has to offer, but nothing came close to the real thing. Until now. The sushi prepared at Restaurant Kyoto is made by a chef that lived and worked +15 years in Kyoto. Meticulous preparation and the freshest and most tender pieces of fish make this the best sushi in the city. Despite the excellence of the food, the price is really very reasonable. If you wanna spend one evening in Japan, look no further. This restaurant is an absolute gem.

Over the years I have been to Kyoto sushi multiple times and have never, ever been disappointed. The sushi (and food) is always amazing, prices are reasonable, and service is impeccable. I know some people mention that getting served can be a bit slow, but it has never been my experience and is well worth the wait anyways. This place is family owned and absolutely charming. The staff really care about the customers and are extremely nice.

I really have nothing bad to say about them. This last time, they made a mistake and brought the wrong order (a ginormous sushi boat instead of a sashimi combo). Not only did they apologize and gave us the plates we had originally ordered, but actually gave us the boat order to go for free. If that's not amazing, I don't know what is.

I give 5 stars for Kyoto, this time and every time I have been for the past 10 years!

This is one of the most consistent restaurants in the city. The sushi is ALWAYS delicious and fresh and filled with flavour. The restaurant itself is simple and welcoming. The staff is courteous and efficient. Check out the lunch menu if you can, great prices! Kyoto continues to be my go-to location for sushi.

This is a small, simple mom and pop style restaurant that serves some very good food at very reasonable prices. Special mention is due to their sushis. The fish was fresh, the flavors delicate. The portions here are quite generous compared to many other fancy, poncy Japanese restaurants. The service can be a bit iffy owing to language issues, but that is not a huge problem. Overall a great value for money restaurant.

North of Métropolitain on Decarie blvd. In Ville St.Laurent, away from all the Downtown hype you will find a true Japanese restaurant with a Japanese chef-owner. Food served here, be it Sushi or traditional family fare, is real and fresh , without any pretentions to fusion or nouvelle cuisine. Weather you order Maki, Sashimi or Cones, the fish or the vegetables will be the freshest you'll ever tasted; and rice oh heavenly rice, each grain separate yet held together as if by magic to create a texture of devine experience. Kyoto is not your average North American Sushi restaurant, it is a small piece of Japan tranported through the talents of the Chef-owner to spoil us here in Québec. If you're not sure what to order , place your taste buds in the capable of hands of Josh whose suggestions and kind servce never disappoint. For real Japanese visit Kyoto.
